I'd hang on to it,no doubt they will be in contact in a few weeks to say that they have made a mistake and you now owe them £1400.

The 700 they gave you plus the 700 you owe plus interest on both!

Yep and from experience you will get a fine for late payment on the money due !

I got a tax bill a couple of years ago of nearly £4000 for "unpaid" tax due from the previous year even though I've always been PAYE! I was allowed to pay it back over a 12 month period and at the end of it they fined me for the late payment and then charged me interest on the late payment even though they'd agreed a payment plan ! So in summary the revenue hadn't stopped enough tax so I had to pay it back and the fine for their mistakes! The clue is in the title "pay as you earn"
