Who wants to live longer?

I know that I do!

I thought I'd share an interesting tit bit...

Spermidine...Spermidine in the diet may help you live longer.

When I 1st heard this I thought this was something man had 'created' to encourage us to swallow...

A bit like when I heard that sex was good for headaches (informed of by a horny partner when I had a headache).

Turns out there is truth to both!

Never fear though there is more than 1 way to get spermidine.

There are spermidine rich foods out there

Anyone have any helpful tit bits that they would like to share?

Me!! I want to!!! However, I rather think I can forego spermidine in my diet to achieve it.

Stay positive! That helps trememndously.

Apparently only 20 percent of our longevity is genetically determined. The rest is what we do, how we live our lives and increasingly the mindset we have about life.

As long as I am still able to do the things I want to do then I’m happy to keep going. At the point I reach such a physical/mental decline that it isn’t fun any more, then I’d probably like to call it a day. Sadly at that point I won’t really get a say.

"Apparently only 20 percent of our longevity is genetically determined. The rest is what we do, how we live our lives and increasingly the mindset we have about life. "

The biggest factors are authentic happiness and thankfulness. There’s a lot of research spanning decades cited by selligman that shows those who are thankful and devote thier lives to serving others, those who are happy and experience flow states without realising what they are , live way longer than those who grasp and cling onto things like money, careers, diets, fitness, self help etc

How does anyone know it would be longer unless you have a death date to work from

abruzzo Italy (and UK)

“ Millions long for immortality who don't know what to do with themselves on a rainy Sunday afternoon."

I’m firmly of the opinion that when you die is irrelevant, particularly if you have no fore knowledge of it, once you’re dead you have no awareness of being dead or of having missed anything or being able to want more life, it’s the period of time when you know you’re dying and the suffering of the process of dying that would/will suck.

There are lots of positives from this, no nursing homes, a much lower percentage chance of being ill, no free child care for the grandchildren, but I would say we can retire at 55 if we have worked all of our lives.

I would have replied had night , unfortunately the old peoples home I'm in switch the wifi off with the lights.

Surely, rather than live longer, the aim has to be to keep full health later into life as possible.

Living longer with a lower quality of life would not be an aim...

That would be a frightening prospect to me. My mom and dad are well over that age and living great productive lives. They have worked hard all their lives and deserve (as most of us do) to live their lives naturally out.

All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest

I would certainly hope to live a long and joyous life, so long as the health is reasonable. I've seen too many patients live long lives with poor quality due to ill health.

I'd never heard the term Spermanidine

This would not be my aim either.

There would become a point if the Quality was eroded sufficiently I would not want to be here.

There's not much point in aiming to be any older than that.

Even those with the widest age filters of 18-99 still wouldn't receive any messages you sent.......

But it's the inhumane way that we are forced to.leave it that I don't want.

Watched my 96 year old gran starve to death whilst in a coma.

We wouldn't put our animals through it so an elective time to go works far better in our book.

It's that fine line. I never want to be physically dependent on anyone, but by that time, will I have the mental capacity to realise that I no longer am?

Animal based diets are proven to extend lives as well. You just have to make sure it's quality and not pumped full of shite or processed.

I understand that. I really do and don't disagree on the horrors of palative care.

I have watched loved ones too suffer that way.

I have also seen relatives live long into their 80's and die in their sleep or very suddenly..with no prolonged suffering.

I just don't think it's as simple as well, your 65 and out!

But if you actually research it.....

All those other countries you've listed have schemes where you pay far more in as a percentage of income during your working lifetime than the UK does.

So it's no surprise that the payout at the end is greater.

Simple maths. Pay more in = get more out.

But I doubt UK workers would accept a sudden hike in contributions........
