I do like the films but some of them just got silly.

Why not just shoot him rather than set up unfeasibly daft traps?

“Do you expect me to talk?”

“No, Mr Bond, I expect you to die”

You’re right, OP, a quick bullet to the head and we can all go home.

Bond enters the room

“I have you now Mr Bond”

*Shoots bond*

The End

I’d watch it.

Somewhere off the edge of the map... 'ere there be monsters

Same thing with a lot of video games, too. I just played through the Uncharted _rilogy recently, and the number of times the bad guys caught Drake and then just didn’t shoot him on the spot for… reasons. It’s a very common crutch / trope that a lot of writers seem to be unable to shake.

Because that's not what escapism is all about.

The movies would be a bit short too.

Can I just say I only watch Bond for the Astons? As long as nobody kills a DB5, It's OK.

I think they lost their way during the Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan years. Too many gadgets, cheap sets and silly plots.

The Daniel Craig era has brought Bond back to where it should be.

He might have been but the plots were crap.

Connery was the best Bond, except he should have stuck to his principles and not done Diamonds are Forever.

I’ve said that after watching all the Bond movies a sniper with a decent rifle and scope far quicker and easier way to get rid of someone.

Really? Goldeneye is probably the best one of the lot, don't rate Daniel Craig that highly.

If you want something closer to reality the Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy or Smileys People by John le Carre.

But Bond is total escapism

I agree, films shouldn't exceed 120 minutes.

Or the cinema ticket should come with a glass of wine and a snack as mandatory if it’s longer than 2 hours…

That would be nice but a toilet break would be higher on my list of requirements.

In theory, the one in Goldfinger strapped to the table and the laser edging up towards his groin. He only got out of it by talking his way out.

Can't think of a particularly silly trap in "From Russia With Love".

Oh for the days when films had intermissions.
