"In 1934 Former US Marine General Smedley Butler appeared before the McCormack-Dickstein Congressional Committee. In sworn testimony, Butler revealed he was recruited by an Organisation to lead an overthrow of the Franklin D Roosevelt Government. The Capitalists and Industrialists hated Franklin D Roosevelt Socialist New Deal as it put constraints and safe guards on the Banking Industry. Roosevelt also eliminated the Gold Standard in 1933 Smedley Butler told the committee that the plan was for him to lead 500 thousand men up Washington Pennsylvania Avenue where they would intimidate and disrupt the functions of Government. The goal was for Roosevelt to either resign or hand over his powers. Smedley Butler was recruited because he was an America hero with War Veteran's - a Big Star - a Marine General whom had the loyalty of so many Marine Corps. Smedley Butler was also not a supporter of Franklin D Roosevelt. But, Smedley Butler would not take part in the Fascist overthrow as he was a true believer in Democracy. Smedley Butler leaked the plot to Roosevelt. The cabal were very powerful men of there day, The Du Ponts, J P Morgan, Alfred P Sloan the head of General Motors to name a few. I appear before the Congressional Committee under subpoena to tell the American people what I know about the attempt I believe was to set up a fascist Dictatorship My main interest in this is to preserve our Democratic institutions, I want to retain the right to vote, the right to speak freely. If we maintain these basic principles our Democracy is safe. No Dictatorship can exist with freedom of speech. General Smedley Butler up until his death in death in 1940 was the most decorated Marine in US history and he detailed in his book 'War is a Racket' the motivation behind all conflicts. War is a racket.....War is largely a matter of money. Bankers lend money to foreign countries and when they cannot pay, the President sends Marines to get it.
