Tin town

As I was sat pondering this mornings BBC news, got me to thinking. If we were to compare how we get news today, and our reactions and how we respond to it, how does that compare to 10 or 20 years ago?

I don't even know where to start!

It's just all so much more instant and available. There's far greater opportunity to read news from varying sources and viewpoints , so much more opportunity to fact check, way more opportunity to contribute your opinion and the ability to keep abreast of worldwide current affairs. I think it's great!

I much prefer when we just got the facts rather than 90% opinions.

Notable Events Weather and Sports should be exactly as it says on the tin but these days the vast majority is repetitive filler.

The first three articles I read this morning were more doom and gloom. And got me thinking. What was I reading? Why? How did it make me react? Compare it to 20 years ago reading a newspaper which more often than not had editorial accountability for accuracy... Reported the news in more factual language rather than inflammatory opinion. For me now news has become more entertainment than information.

Hmmm, the availability of so much news is a double edged sword in my opinion. Sure, it can inform us to a certain degree but it can also raise our anxiety levels.

I know from of my own personal experiences I got consumed on following the news and it wasn't healthy. Sometimes you've just got zone out from the noise and just be.

Someone once said this.

The News doesn't tell you how to think, it just tells you what to think about????

Back then people were mature and took the news in their stride. Fast forward to now, people empty the toilet roll shelves.

I agree that it's becoming more newslite. Previously newscasters were forbidden to comment on the news items at all and they certainly wouldn't have had chit chat with the weather person broadcasting from a field in East Anglia.

I read my dad's paper this morning notice I omitted the word 'news'. It was truthfully pages of utter twaddle.
