…to know what your favourite lyrics are of a favourite song.

One of my all time favourites is in a song called Jolene by Ray LaMontagne and I think it’s the way he sings them that makes me smile:

“A man needs something he can hold onto

Nine-pound hammer or a woman like you

Either one of them things will do

Jolene“

So. Your turn

Glasgow

“Well, it looks like the road to heaven

But it feels like the road to hell

When I knew which side my bread was buttered

I took the knife as well”

Is one (freedom 90)

Also

“He sees angels in the architecture

Spinning in infinity

He says, "Amen and Hallelujah!"”

Might leave that one for guesses as kinda fun

“Someone tell me how I feel

In silly wrong, but vivid right

Oh, kiss me like a final meal

Yeah, kiss me like we die tonight”

And perfect for fab

“If you think I wink, I did

Laugh politely at repeats

Yeah, kiss me when my lips are thin”

Hello Pethro! *waves*

I'd not heard that song before, going to find it now.

So one of my favourite lyrics from one of my favourite songs -

"I got my red dress on tonight

Dancin' in the dark, in the pale moonlight

Done my hair up real big, beauty queen style

High heels off, I'm feelin' alive" - LDR

It's so evocative of feeling young and free and just feeling. Not thinking.

Too many. So here’s 2

Our time is on loan, only us to borrow

An' I know

But I can't be today, I can be tomorrow

Yea, all I see, the more I know

The more I know, the less I understand - Paul Weller.

Also

Damn, I wish I was your lover

I'll rock you till the daylight comes

Make sure you are smilin' and warm - Sophie B.

"Find your courage, find your lion

And take your pride and leave the past" Tom Grennan

"The sun and your eyes were the only fire" Dermot Kennedy

"So when the night feels like forever

I'll remember what you said to me

I know you've been hurtin'

Waitin' on a train that just won't come

The rain, it ain't permanent

And soon, we'll be dancin' in the sun

We'll be dancin' in the sun

Why did you let it go

Because it bit my finger so

Which finger did it bite

This little finger on my right

Camberley occasionally doncaster

Black Crowes - Title Song

You know, I never wanted it to be like this

I've been lost in sandstorms

Left naked by your kiss

...........

Well, I really wanna see you again

I miss my lover, I miss my best friend

With you, baby, right here, by my side

With you girl, I'm gonna be all right

Hits the right level of longing and melancholy.

St Austell

"Don't like my women single, I like my chicks in twos"

Lil Wayne, 'Right Above It', featuring Drake.

First heard the line in the theme from "Ballers" - thought it very apt, as I love playing with married women...

....and I've not yet given up hope on having two together!

Padbury

It is so hard to pick just but I went for this, the lyrics taken away from the performance are not as powerful but they still hold a strange beauty. The song is Lazarus Man by Terry Callier.

It's wind on the ocean,

rain on the land

Three drops of water

and one grain of sand

I'll tell you the story

as quick as I can

I've got nothing by time,

I'm Lazarus Man
