Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

I've typed and then not submitted so many replies this morning.

So, in general terms, I would like to say that I'm so glad I don't have kids.

The society that they would be coming into looks increasingly insane - this may be partially a generational thing where I'm just old, but it just looks depressing as fuck.

I have vented, now back to the sarcastic wordplay banter....

Wasn’t much better in 1842.

Our children have made the decision not to have children.

If global warming continues the worst case scenario is, food, water and land shortages will occur, people will increasingly be forced to migrate and the scale of the refugee situation currently will seem like nothing compared to the movement of millions. As much as I'd love grandchildren I can't help but support their decision.

I’m not having kids-made my mind up when I was 13 or so and stuck with it. Being childless is the best thing to me. And admittedly; I’m too selfish to have kids.

I agree with you OP, these are strange and very difficult times we're all living in right now. What with Covid, the medical crisis, economic and collateral damage it brought down on us. Its been a tough couple of years on all.

Then we've got the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, obviously a humanitarian and economic disaster for the poor people of Ukraine.

Sure the fallout is going to hurt us all economically, forthcoming food shortages and the energy spikes. Thats Globalisation, we're all interconnected. When it's good it's good and when it's bad, it's bad.

Thankfully neither my children or I have never lived through a war but if we look outwardly lots of children have. To many in my opinion.

In my life time there's been the Tech crash 2000, the Financial crash of 2008, jeez that was scary, Banks without liquidity, talk of Tanks on the street if the Governments didn't bail out the Zombie Banks.

People will always overcome adversity, we have little choice. Sometimes, somethings are just out of our control.

Batten down the hatches.

Honestly I think it is one of the most selfless and responsible decisions a person can make... to not have kids.

Cos we all know there's enough shit ones out there.

From what I’ve seen on the forums these past few months I think it’s definitely a generational/life experience thing. I honestly think some of the youngsters won’t know what’s hit them in a few years.

As someone who’s nearly thirty the rate at which the collective culture moves out right now is insane and also incredibly frightening.

Amen to that! Even with all her problems I’ve always said I wouldn’t change her for the world. But I’d change the world for her
