Brighton - even Hove!

I told a joke in a thread yesterday: "I like eating Eton Mess but I don't like being 'governed' by it"....it attracted some very angry posts. Funny or not? Love or hate?

"Love Eton mess but don't get the joke "

The joke being that some members of the cabinet were educated at Eton and that I wasn't impressed with their performance.

Is it meringue? Don't like meringue. Ewwww

I actually love Eton Mess, it's one of my fave desserts, but has to be blackcurrant coulis on top and not strawberry or raspberry like I've seen in some places. The trick is to mix the broken meringue into the whipped cream moments before serving. If you mix it too early the cream dissolves the meringue.

SLUUUUUURP!

You should. It's one of those things where your life is incomplete unless you do.

I hate anything with meringue in it

The texture to me is like nails down a blackboard is to others

Ewwwww I can't stand meringue... It's like polystyrene gives me the shivers, and yeah nails going down a blackboard or a fork skreatching on a plate!!!

I love Eton Mess, and your joke.

I can never get my meringue stiff enough so cheat and buy it. I quite like meringue crumbled in ice cream too.

You're not supposed to put carrots and sweetcorn in the mix.

"I told a joke in a thread yesterday: "I like eating Eton Mess but I don't like being 'governed' by it"....it attracted some very angry posts. Funny or not? Love or hate? "

The joke: very funny

The dessert: It's okay, but although there is a fair amount of prep time involved (assuming one is a purist and does it all from scratch..... as if!!!) I don't find it all that impressive to be honest. Bit like 'mucked about with' Pavlova...

Pork

Eton Mess was really a pavlova and students picked it up and put it back into glasses and made it a real mess .. That's how you got this sweet From the Eton students years ago messing around .

Will Eton Mess now have to be known as Grannies Crannies?
