Why dont we use city centre parks to grow fruit and veg so the homeless have access to fresh free fruit, veg and salad?

Let’s house those experiencing homelessness. It’s completely preventable.

Better idea. Why don’t we hold our governments accountable to do something about homelessness in the first place.

I didn’t realise how bad homelessness was until the other week when I had to go through the city centre early on a Sunday morning. It’s absolutely disgusting that it has been allowed to get this bad.

The government should be held to account for this but unfortunately they’re untouchable.

I've seen that in the news recently, they do it somewhere but can't remember where.

Normalising homelessness like we do is actually so scary.

I hate that the "homeless" are considered a different class of people.

If its not good enough for you, it's not good enough for homeless people.

Every one of us could easily be homeless and the homeless should be treated with the same respect as everyone else.

We have the resources to feed, house and clothe every single person on the planet. The problem is we are manipulated to believe some people are more deserving than others in a subtle form of oppression by the super wealthy.

Do you mean replace closer beds with a vegetable plot? The council gardeners could swap flowers for vegetables. The problems I can see are that vegetables need more attention than flowers, salad especially, how would you ensure that the right people took the produce and how would homeless people prepare and cook vegetables?

Hard agree. It's really not rocket science, if the political will is there.

Safe Spaces for homeless people to access their needs would be better, not all of them want to be housed but have complex needs

Eastbourne (she/they)

There are 227,000 people homeless in the UK by recent estimates. this includes people rough sleeping, sleeping in vans and sheds, and stuck in B&Bs.

There are over 600,000 empty homes in the UK.

there is no reason in this day and age why ANYONE should go hungry or without shelter.

No they aren't. Many will vote against them next general election and they will be out. Then the new government will also ignore the problem......oh, wait!..

Exactly this ^

There are several places in Derby that offer food & drink on a daily basis. During the winter months there is a different church open each night for the homeless to take shelter. but some people still prefer to sleep rough in a shop doorway.

Exactly this. They can't even say the word homeless, they use rough sleeping. I hate that term as it implies that people are doing it out of choice. Break that cycle and give people the opportunity to access help they desperately need.

The Housing First model is designed to support complex needs, housing led approaches with ongoing support for unlimited timeframes. It’s a misnomer that people don’t *want* to be housed because they have complex needs.

couple, us we him her.

But building smart motorways and high speed rail links that no-one wants apart from those making money is far more important than solving homelessness.

It's a nice idea, but doesn't really work. Fruit and veg are very seasonal, so will only provide a crop for a few weeks of the year.

On the other hand though, there is more than enough for to provide for everyone if only profits weren't more important.
