Nicest logs

After adding lighter fuel to an open fire...just because I like the whoooosh noise it makes when it ignites, Ive have had that little experience marred as it has taken over the nice smell of the apple log that was burning.

What wood do you think is the nicest smelling one for burning?

( oh waits for the onslaught of replies referring to the wood between the legs lol)

Oh oak is lovely, never tried cedar though...tends to be what is around the garden, so burn walnut and apple mainly...and handfuls of pine cones.

Up North :-)

Oak is good as long as its not too green as it smokes a lot. Mine smells the best and silver birch looks the best as the bark flakes and fizzles a little.

Love it down at my mums at xmas. They live in the middle of a wood and if the snow is on the trees its magical. Often go for my Sunday lunch and call asleep after with my feet up on the fender and blazing logs on the fire.

Pretty good i have to say but on the other hand it brings things home about my dad getting older and not able to do what he could.

Tell you what is great is toasting crumpets on a fork over an open fire.

Sounds a bit like my folks place. Fortunately I don't have to do any chopping coz we're still using bits from the trees that fell in the storm in 87

He he he thats lasted a while. Have to sort a couple of tons out for my elderlies as if i dont my dad ends up spending up to £200 quid a month on coal. (ok as its smokeless zone)

Keep trying to persuade them to move into a smaller bungalow but no avail.
