Apparel the Chief Generals of the Parachute Regiment has decided to stop the Paras going on a trip because they investigated the so called gangbang at Colchester Barracks. Reports say that although the orgy was 'consensual' it 'denigrates' women. Tom is no scholar but is the General saying it's ok for men who are the studs here but the girls are slags?

Oi General.. leave our Essex Girls alone and stop judging them.

Since denigrate means to criticize unfairly I don't think that's what he's saying at all.

I think it says more about what the Chief Generals think if women than anything.

"I think it says more about what the Chief Generals think if women than anything."

How. They're saying that the perception of women in gang bangs is criticising them unfairly going by what Tom reported. Admittedly I should go read the actual story.

I haven't seen the video but I've read the Sky news report on the comments. They're saying the video appears to denigrate women and that 8 members of the parachute regiment are under police investigation.

You're right that I could be misinterpreting what was said but I genuinely think that *on the face of it* saying that consensual sex (albeit not the kind most people admit to enjoying) is somehow denigrating women is more about the observers attitude.

Why does a General stopping paras going on a trip make you think he is saying the troops are studs ?

If it was consensual why are the police investigating?

"If it was consensual why are the police investigating?"

I think it's under military law which is much stricter.

I would of thought there fellow soldiers will think they are heroes

I've seen dozens of the videos sent to me by members of the military community and seen it from all angles and it was absolutely consensual. She looked like she was having a bloody good time and would have had more if the Paras present could have risen to the occassion....

Probably military police, classed as a security breach.

Maybe the video going around is classed as revenge porn?

Army life has not changed since Tom was in the services. If a para smashes up the NAFFI it's called criminal damage. If an officer trashes the Officers mess it's called High Spirits...

If it happened in any normal business it would bring embarrassment or unwanted attention to the organisation. There would be an HR investigation and people world be reminded of their responsibilities. Most contracts have behaviour clauses.

As I recall, no personal experience I hasten to add that criminal law will take priority..

RMP detectives the SIB do work in partnership with their civilian and other military colleagues..

Some might think they have some kudos, that's often the way of some blokes whether in or out of uniform, most will be thinking what kind of stupid idea was it to post it online..

I can think of a couple of workplaces where it would be gross misconduct, pick up your cards on the way out..

As the thread's titled "Military Language", firstly, it was the new Chief of the General Staff who made the decision, not the "Chief Generals of the Parachute Regiment" - it was the Colonel Commandant of the Paras who confirmed it publicly...

....secondly, it wasn't a "trip" - which makes it sound like they were going off on a jolly - but a rostered operational deployment...

....meanwhile, the RMP has established no crime was committed, as the 'incident' was consensual - however, it is being construed as detrimental to the Army’s reputation...

---I think the problem is that the 'orgy' sounds like it was more of a 'gang bang' with lots of male soldiers and a single woman.

These days, she may well have liked it 'a bit rough' too (ie if it was in line with popular porn).

No doubt it was consensual, but it's hard to say how it appeared to the General without seeing the video. --pt
