I am shocked that this (apart from me now) has been the only mention of Freddie. His vocal range, pitch and tonal quality was outstanding. Even when he was dying he laid down some superb vocal tracks. A talent lost to the excesses of the rock world

As in Whitney Houston had an amazing voice but it seemed somehow manufactured whereas George's voice was naturally pure ..

That's kinda the only way I can explain it I guess .. I dunno

Did you see the documentary about the last year or so of his life ? He was pretty much house bound and watched TV and listened to the radio a lot in the day. He often rang into shows when he saw people needing money for treatment, IVF etc. He would give the money on condition that it was never revealed where it had come from.

George Michael for sure huge fan of many years. So sadly missed

I’m looking forward to seeing the documentary in the cinema next week.

Other soul voices - for me Etta James, though any “bones” fans I think Cyndi lauper did an amazing rendition of “at last” on that

Otis redding, Solomon Burke (for those thinking “I’ve never heard him” you have if you’ve seen dirty dancing! But he did other amazing work), Roberta flack… love soul singers

Pure singers different style, erring more towards classical and musical theatre voices Julie Andrews yes, I would add Judy garland, barbra Streisand, Marni Nixon (king and I)

A personal favourite though erring more towards jazz is Beverly craven

Freddie is amazing of course but more of a rock bordering on operatic voice than soul I’d say.

Can you imagine what amazing opera singers Freddie and meat loaf would have made?
