A casual magazine report that Fern Britton, the TV presenter, took an IQ test and joined MENSA but hubby did not pass and the report says it sort of contributed to ending the marriage..

Does it matter who is the most intelligent.. ?

Not to Tom and common sense is as good a marker as any IQ test

Isn't it more what you do with that intelligence? Known some real "smart arses" and the title explains what they really were. Yet met others who don't claim to most intelligent person in the world but have been some of nicest people have met.

Consider myself more knowledgeable which I think is much better than just being intelligent

This is the difficulty. How do you measure it? I dated someone who was incredibly well qualified and got onto an exclusive graduate scheme and I was somewhat in awe of his intelligence but I've also dated people with only high school education who were also fountains of knowledge and I could have incredibly stimulating, thought provoking conversations with. One ex was studying for his masters but I never had that with him and found him to be quite ignorant in many areas.

Intelligence is subjective. While I enjoy a lot talking to Men and Women who are Intelligent. However, sometimes went you talk to someone who is more intelligent or not as intelligent. You or other person depending on impressions. Makes a judgement on that person. Which socially outcast from true engagement.

Is well-known in psychological circles. That each different person depending whether they’re an introvert or an extrovert. Has different levels of engagement depending on how open or close the person is. Or judgement on body language.

Difference with academical intelligence and people intelligence on conduct, politeness and graces are also noticeable.

Just my opinion. I love talking to anyone regardless of Intellectual or background.

(Unless it was the deceit in doing the test in secret)

Having not done a mensa test, does it normally take all day ?

Life experience intelligence counts a lot more then academic intelligence. Having a balance of both is great. Generational leaps have dulled common sense. But is doesn’t define a person.

Is a broad subject topic that can go into different elements. End of the day you know who you like and who you don’t like regardless of their gender. Or intellectual integrity.

These IQ tests, where 100 is supposed to be average, only test a small area of what is classed today as human intelligence. It's not about IQ vs EQ either.

IQ results have been proved time and time again to of little worth, largely by the kind of people who get high results. Remember George W Bush (who scored 125 compared to the US average of 98)? The guy who thought Africa was a country and that Greeks were called Grecians? And routinely made comments like,

• “You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test.”

• "we ought to make the pie higher"

• “One of the great things about books is sometimes there are some fantastic pictures.”

• "I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully."

• "See, free nations are peaceful nations. Free nations don't attack each other. Free nations don't develop weapons of mass destruction!"

• "You work three jobs? ... Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that."

• "The problem with the French is that they don't have a word for entrepreneur."

• "Will the highways on the Internet become more few?"

• "You wake up at the high school level and find out that the illiteracy level of our children are appalling." etc

They made a flip-up calender of 365 of them, I think when he was still in office. Bush possibly blundered almost as much as Trump told lies (and Trump claims an IQ of 156, yet wants to arm teachers, of all human people, to help keep negative issues related to gun access out of schools!) They counted over 2000 clear canards by Trump apparently, again I think while he was still in office.

IQ results are likely never used to look for employees in any capacity. And even in somewhere like rocket science, where you might be somewhat interested in a stupendous one (they can go well over 200), they'd be made entirely irrelevant by other certifications.

If my partner wanted to frequent those gruesome 'mensa meets' it would certainly put a fork up my relationship too. --pt

Completely agree. The human mind is not so black and white. Worked and known people with learning disabilities who haven’t had the sort of experiences that most of us take for granted. Yet are incredibly creative and intelligent in various ways.

As a child I was unable to speak or form coherent sentences when talking to people without stuttering incomprehensibly. Most of my education has been self learned as I left school at 14 years old with no grades what so ever. I worked for my father and travelled around Europe with my brother.

Individualistic journeys define a persons character and the human mind.

What makes someone more intelligent than another?

Two different tests may reveal very different results.

Any tests that I've encountered are always weighted, so don't really demonstrate a true scale of intellectual ability.

We don't understand intelligence that well and are very limited in how we try to measure it, partly because of this. IQ tests were based on faked research results and are central to our poor system.

I like the right balance oveeall between me and a partner. This will include some similarities and not too great a drop in cognitive abilities. I have some big deficits and appreciate someone brighter. Too big a gap and I may not fulfill them enough.
