"Not sure academic qualifications equal intelligence.. Often quite the reverse " This is the difficulty. How do you measure it? I dated someone who was incredibly well qualified and got onto an exclusive graduate scheme and I was somewhat in awe of his intelligence but I've also dated people with only high school education who were also fountains of knowledge and I could have incredibly stimulating, thought provoking conversations with. One ex was studying for his masters but I never had that with him and found him to be quite ignorant in many areas.

"A casual magazine report that Fern Britton, the TV presenter, took an IQ test and joined MENSA but hubby did not pass and the report says it sort of contributed to ending the marriage.. "Many of these so called educated types have little common sense.. " Life experience intelligence counts a lot more then academic intelligence. Having a balance of both is great. Generational leaps have dulled common sense. But is doesn’t define a person. Is a broad subject topic that can go into different elements. End of the day you know who you like and who you don’t like regardless of their gender. Or intellectual integrity.

"Many of these so called educated types have little common sense.. " Nothing is more irksome to me than statements like this, or the idea that people are “book-smart vs lifes-smart”. The human mind is not so black and white, no matter how many “people I know…”

I have a very academically accomplished best friend who is (by her own admission) thick as pig shit sometimes! She needs me in her life to balance her Perhaps they're making degrees too easy to obtain Hope not, she’s a GP " I was seeing a GP for a while who kept asking me questions about male sexual stuff. Either he was too lazy to Google, or he got off hearing about me talking about other men

The human mind is not so black and white, no matter how many “people I know…” " Completely agree. The human mind is not so black and white. Worked and known people with learning disabilities who haven’t had the sort of experiences that most of us take for granted. Yet are incredibly creative and intelligent in various ways. As a child I was unable to speak or form coherent sentences when talking to people without stuttering incomprehensibly. Most of my education has been self learned as I left school at 14 years old with no grades what so ever. I worked for my father and travelled around Europe with my brother. Individualistic journeys define a persons character and the human mind.

The one where my father didn't want me to sit GCSE's get married ASAP and help with the family business? Or maybe the system that told me a couple of weeks before sitting said GCSE's that I'd fail them and should consider a secretary course? You know the system that measures intelligence in a narrow way that didn't account for neurodivergence? Or are you making a heck of a lot of assumptions based on my educational levels? Which to me suggests a lack of what do you call it? Oh yeah common sense
