But we choose to ignore a few things which we assume we can overcome. The degree of assumption varies from man to man. Also the assumption that every lady sticks strictly to what she wrote as her requirement is a bit exaggerated. For the right chemistry everyone has room for a slight adjustment.

It's just the first impression. The presentation, if it sparks any interest, all is good.

So shoot your shot men, if it doesn't work, remember nothing is perfect even in the animal kingdom. Now, how much you remain within the gentleman's limits and bounds is up to you. The higher of course the better. There is a sex life outside fab you enjoy I believe and fab doesn't give any medals for being the best hook by the number of fish you get.

But I do read profiles. And I take everything as it appears now. When someone says they’re not meeting, I accept it. No men shorted that 5’9. Why should I bother? And I could go on.

There’s a reason I don’t message everyone on here, those I’ve liked I do not fit what they want. They’ve made crystal clear lists of wants and dislikes.

But, I do have a mindset of similar you yours. If they haven’t laid out a line in the sand, some things are a grey area and might move if I start talking to them. But that brings me back to my first point. I don’t message.

The stereo type women on fab will not reply.

I agree, there is a degree to what men are willing to ignore profile requirements. Now the degree varies from man to man. But assuming men don't read profiles I think is a bit exaggerated or at least not the hard and fast rule.

OP, I'm afraid I don't ignore things in profiles or assume I can overcome them - that way disappointment leads, but maybe that's just me. But I can and will chat to anyone, and agree that the right chemistry is the most important factor and can be there even if outside strict online parameters. I think that's more likely in person than online though, as I wouldn't message someone whose profile explicitly ruled me out! I didn't understand the rest about hooks and fish and medals, but agree there's a big world outside Fab to meet people!

I read and respect, personally. It's rude not to I feel.

I think the only time I would consider ignoring is if i was a touch out of their age limit. ie, theirs is 45, and ive been 46 for like a week, that kind of thing

and even then I might make it only a wink

Up to a point… but why are you assuming that was isn’t important to you isn’t important to them… everything is written for a reason

So it’s all well and good saying shoot your shot, but that just end up with people outside of a criteria sending messages when it was specifically laid out….

So for everyone where you have told people to shoot… I would say to the person on the receiving end “don’t settle!”

It would seem many do read profiles.

There are though those (and there are a lot) that don't read profiles.

Since we've changed our profile, messages have dropped a lot, however there are still too many asking if we want to meet today.

When people complain about those not reading profiles, these are the ones they have in mind.

Personally, we can choose to see that as a filter.

I don't send messages so there's no correlation between reading a profile and contacting someone.

I only ever read profiles if someone contacts me and I check to see if we are compatible.

More often than not their profile is the complete opposite of what I've clearly set out in my bio so I will reply but it will be a short conversation.

This is actually the approach a lot of couples take.

At least half the couples who have contacted me over the years have made some comment in their opening message about how my profile is only for show and they know I don't really believe any of it. Either that orI don't have options at my age and can't afford to be choosey.

I also look at the profiles of published verifications to see who they have met and if there is any room for manoeuvre for instance if I am 1 year older than their stated preference but they have met somebody older than me then I might send a message.

Why would someone exaggerate what they are looking for

It's hard enough to find a good fit on here why would anyone add a bunch of requirements they aren't looking for

By choosing to ignore someone's profile and hoping you can get them to change what they are looking for to suit your requirement your adding to the angst of the thousands of single guys on here struggling to get messages opened because the few females on this site (compared to guys) are being inundated by messages from inappropriate suitors

This is honestly the list ridiculous piece of advice I've read on here

Just read a profile if you tick their boxes & you like them, message them if you don't even if one thing is out, move on, even a message saying nice pics is potentially ruining a more promising guys chances as you're just adding to an already overloaded inbox

You make some good points. My recommendation though is to acknowledge where you don't fit and your plan to overcome that. But I would say focus your energies on women you may fit with better.my distance thing for example may sound silly to some but I have just found that the a bigger the distance the less likely it is to become regular and long-term.
