Reports that mad scientists from the World Health Organisation will rename Monkeypox because the word is discriminatory. Chicken pox to follow I imagine. It's all over the news

Sounds like the who are a bit racist if they think of something else when the word "monkey" is used.

What about Smallpox ?

A pox is a box even out of a box.

But a pox isn't a pox if it's wearing red sox.

Sos .... I went all Suessy Lorax.

This is because the two main clades are called West African and Central African. The WHO say - In the context of the current global outbreak, continued reference to, and nomenclature of this virus being African is not only inaccurate but is also discriminatory and stigmatising,” the experts write. They go on to criticise the use of photos of African patients with pox lesions in coverage of the outbreak in the global north.

Which seems fair enough.

How dare you bring context and reason into the discussion.

Pretty obvious to anyone what's going on. People just don't like to see it.

"Of the cases interviewed, 81% were known to be London residents and 99% were male. The median age of confirmed cases in the UK was 38 years old.

152 cases participated in more detailed questionnaires. In this data, 151 of the 152 men interviewed identified as gay, bisexual, or men who have sex with men, or reported same sex contact. Recent foreign travel, within 21 days prior to symptom onset, was reported by 75 cases, with 59 of these reporting travel within Europe."

Why they took so long to rename is quite obvious. Every day that word is shouted at me by the lovely public. More so since this pox came about.

People will on keep on using that word name change or not.

Funny how they didn't waste time in changing the Indian variant to Delta.
