"The big announcement. There will be a Fab social at Prom 8 at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Wednesday 20th July. The programme includes: Rachmaninov Piano concerto 2 in C minor Tchaikovsky Romeo & Juliet suite Tickets are £6 if last year's price still holds. We usually get tickets on the door but I believe you can get these standing tickets in advance on the day now. We have two takers so far other than me (Luke, and Hannah is abroad), with a third who had gone quiet. I'll put up something in the Meets section. If anybody else is interested then let me know. " It looks like a weirdly interesting combination for Wednesday. I'm going on Tuesday to Dido and Aeneas, as long as I stay Covid free.

"I went to the Albert Hall to see the Aretha Franklin Prom with Shelea. Phenomenal. Try to catch it on the iPlayer. " I watched it on the telly the other night. It looked like one of the highlights. Plus, Jules Buckley is always a winning Prom.

"I'm talking about the ones at the Albert Hall in London run by the BBC that gets mentioned less on here than the one you may be thinking of. We're avid classical music fans. This (IMHO) is the greatest music festival in the world. I (Luke) have been going since I was a teenager. If I organised a social open to all comers, who would be interested in coming along? There are concerts every evening from 15th July to 10th September, plus a few others. We can bat ideas around of which concert to go to. I'm thinking of July. Hannah will be abroad but I'll be around. We would get arena tickets which involve standing. They can be bought on the door and I think are £6, so very inexpensive. Who would be up for this? " I've just "popped my cherry" at Prom 58: "This New Noise" with Public Service Broadcasting. An utterly incredible experience! I'd DEFINITELY BE up for a social in 2023!!

"All the proms have now been cancelled including the last night of the proms. " There was only tonight and tomorrow left anyway. It's not a big surprise. I don't really agree with it though. The Queen was a patron of the Albert Hall. Surely she would want people to be using it and enjoying the culture she helped fund. I don't really see cancelling it as a mark of respect, which is how the venue describes it. If I was a significant public figure I would be sad to think people might stop enjoying their lives because I had died. If people want to make individual choices about things they do, that's fine, but to stop big events she helped fund just doesn't seem all that respectful. I know I wouldn't want that if it were me.

"To be fair I do think that the proms would have been a brilliant way to honour the queen xx " I entirely agree with you. She was a patron of the arts and of the Albert Hall itself. What better tribute to her life and work could there be than the last night with all its celebration of Britain?
