Tom places bird food out and likes the family of robbins etc feeding. Does anyone know if the birds actually know that he feeds them?

I dont think they have that kind of cognitive capacity to be fair. I think they just just like the free food that they dont have to work at to find.

Reading

There are reports of magpies and crows bringing treasures back to the people who feed them but these are highly intelligent birds.

Surprised you missed the news reports.

I saw a programme where crows dropped nuts on a busy road to crack them then waited at the pedestrian crossing for the green Man before safely crossing the road.. and that is true..

Wouldn't happen in London. They would wait for the green Man and then get mowed down by a cyclist...

Apparently you are featured in the Good Feed Guide for birds…. Only three star so room for improvement..

This and I watched a program or report about how some can understand probability. If I remember correctly, I seldom do, there was a selection of bird feeders all with differing amount of nuts in. Mixed in with the nuts, again differing amounts, were nonfood beads or stones meaning differing nut/stone ratios. Upon pushing a button a small amount of said mix would drop out, after a short period the birds knew to press the button on the feeder with the most nuts and then work their way through the feeders starting with the most nuts.
