Anyone else with a chronic illness(es) tired of being fobbed off by the doctors? I remember when I got diagnosed with my chronic daily headaches and he said ‘go get some ibuprofen’ like wow! I definitely haven’t thought of that before!

Maybe it’s just my GP? I have a lot of respect for the NHS; they’ve been wonderful these past few months for me; but they royally fucked me over in my teen years. I remember when I was denied birth control for being fat.

Rant over. Just tired of living with chronic illness, both mentally and physically.

The pain can be tolerated some days, others less so.

I’m still waiting for a referral that was originally done back in 2017

It’s crazy how they expect people to just live like this! I don’t want to waste NHS resources by constantly having appointments; but they also aren’t doing anything! I’m just going in circles

Some diseases are difficult to diagnose and therefore treat.

That’s the problem…they don’t even run any tests. With my headaches; he didn’t even bother to ask if I want any tests or to run any tests. He just said, get some ibuprofen. 6 years on and I’m still suffering.

I know this is easily said, but if the IT help desk tell me to switch it off and on again, and that doesn't work, I ask them what their next guess is.

If they tried to get me to do it again, we'd be having the talk about doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome.

You were a vocal advocate for Pride on another thread - is that something you can carry in to your doctor (the self-advocacy, not the pride)?

I’ve tried…I stopped when I got laughed at. That was probably the final straw for me.

Not really a chronic illness but I had an issue once, a serious life threatening one - and the doctors told me I’d had a pulled muscle. Even after an X-ray that showed the problem, the doctor still said it was a pulled muscle.

I spent the week in agony and unable to breathe or barely stay awake and was just told to take paracetamol.

It was only after a week later when someone else looked at the X-ray by chance, that I was urgently recalled to hospital. Luckily I’d recovered by myself without treatment.

But from that point on I’ve never trusted doctors.

I’ve had my chronic pain condition (still's disease) since I was a child wheel chair bond and having to lean to walk again was challenging but I and had excellent care.

I turned 18 (now 40) and got forgotten about so I don’t bother with DRs anymore (pain killers are my best friend) I have very limited mobility but I work, go on holiday and really enjoy swinging.

I just live my life to the fullest and take each day at a time. It’s ok not to be ok and sometimes and perfectly acceptable to be able to walk after a good sex session lol

For the chronic headaches I can give some practical advice (if you want it).

I have chronic migraines as well as ME/CFS and eventually I ended up moving GPs (helpfully because I moved house) just as I'd got the original (useless) GP to agree to do something about the migraines.
