Somewhere In The Ether…

….but who now are sadly very much not.

Let’s face it, creativity is hard to maintain over a long period of time.

Indeed, many a musical artist has exploded onto the scene with revolutionary and awesome material and may have even produced a few albums of the same, or even better quality before alarmingly, their musical mojo seems to bugger right off!

With the above in mind; Good folks: Would you please list for me examples of artists who you loved the earlier works of, but who’s subsequent output quality has now dropped sorely

Not quite what you've asked for, OP, but Diana Ross on Saturday was terrible. I was so disappointed.

Her backing singers did the heavy lifting.

It truly pains me to name this living legend as he is quite rightly regarded as a true synth pioneer but Jean-Michel Jarre.

Aside from a few glimmers here and there of his former glory, when I compare his recent output with the early likes of Oxygene and Equinoxe…well it simply doesn’t compare

The Prodigy, its going to be very sad without Keith up there getting the crowd going. Carry on releasing records but 90 minutes of Maximum screaming there asking us to make some noise. No thank you.

Another vote for Rod Stewart, definitely a christ almighty moment on Saturday.

I haven't heard them live for a while but some friends went to see Bonjovi and U2. Jon apparently wasn't even halfway there and Bono hadn't found the notes he was looking for.

Eminem. I just don't find some of his more recent stuff as clever, seems to be going for the very low hanging fruit

Glad someone said this - I agree. Marshall Mathers was good ..the next one ‘OK’, after that (apart from the odd collaboration) bollocks.

Although, check out Dr Dre ft Eminem Gospel (2022) …back doing what they do best.

Slightly off thread, but Joan Armatrading is in her seventies and her vocal technique is better than ever. Good arrangements,too. Still, her songwriting isn't as special as it once was.

I really liked Recovery and Marshall Mathers LP2, but not much since then. Will give that a listen though
