I'd disagree with that. I've met plenty of people who use a lot of big words - but often incorrectly - because they think it makes them look intelligent.

So if you know someone who knows what he knows

You must know Henry's cat."

Man is also short for human

others are neutral eg horse, sheep, birds

A chicken is what you eat. The females are called hens. The males are called roosters.

A female horse = mare; male = stallion (or gelding if it saw the man with two bricks). Etc.

"A clever man" refers to a single man

Referring to "man" as in "man's best friend" would suggest the wider (possibly gender neutral) population. I'd argue the reference to "man" is simply a throwback to when women were neither seen nor heard and certainly didn't get philosophical sayings said about them.

Actually, etymologically human and man are unrelated. Human is Latin and man is German.

I would say that “smart/intelligent” people tend to be more willing to listen without interrupting, Will usually give an honest un-biassed facts based answer (not just what people want to hear) and tend to be much more calm and collected during discussions with people who hold different opinions.

But that depends on whether they’re humble or arrogant though

"Smart people carry books, a calculator, wear glasses and comfortable clothes.

This makes them easy to spot.

You’re not confusing them with students are ya?

Possibly. Although the distinct difference in students is that they also have blurry eyes....you'll not see that on a smart person

Ohhh I dunno….. you may be being judgemental here….. they do say it’s a thin line between genius and drug abuse

A smart person gone off the rails a bit?

Apparently smarter people are more likely to experiment with mind altering drugs…… so those blurry eyed people carting books and looking smart may in fact be lecturers on their way to teach

Yeah I know, I was only messing around

Sorry, I was just being a smart arse, I forget most people don’t get my shitty sense of humour "

A smart persons arse?"

I’m an equal opportunities arse man! A nice arse is a nice arse, although if the brain that controls it isn’t at least somewhat intelligent, then I’m afraid that ass isn’t grass and I won’t be mowing it lol

not really, just proving that not all arguments need to be won. No use trying to prove a point to a person that doesn't want to know, especially if they're wrong

"A clever man has answers, a wise man has more questions and knows where to hunt down those answers.

A dumb person thinks they know it all and starts to recruitments to a cult.

What about a smart woman?! "

A smart woman watches the men being smart/wise/dumb with an amused expression on her face whilst eating cake and talking with her non-binary friends about toxic masculinity and the need for a new kind of society. Then she eats more cake. Cause she's smart and knows that cake eating is a key component to happiness whereas "intelligence" as defined by society is highly overrated.

Sorry, my reply was outta order and overly harsh! I was drinking whiskey, and have a bad habit of jumping to conclusions and making assumptions. Genuine apologies!!! But I’m definitely one of those people you refer too, if I think I’m right, I’ll fight my corner to the death, either by proving myself right, or being humble in my acceptance of having proved myself wrong but all debates must be concluded one way or another

I think so. It shows itself in how you handle conflict, how you deal with relationship issues, how you respond to people expressing opinions different to yours and many other ways.

When they pass exams with no effort or studying . I knew someone like this . He could a couple days before exams . Read the text books . Then pass exam . While everybody struggled . Funny thing was . Went to Oxford University. Passed with honours etc. Then after a couple jobs in , universities . Went to work as as gardener in a country estate. Yes his degree ? More qualified. Did not want promotion . Just liked being a gardener.

"They use lots of big words embellished with a sprinkling of French and/or Latin

I'd disagree with that. I've met plenty of people who use a lot of big words - but often incorrectly - because they think it makes them look intelligent.

"Keep it simple stupid" often applies"

Totally. Although I do like having fun and deliberately using a big word that makes no sense at all in a sentence to see if I’m laughed or corrected - very amusing when people use it back in the wrong context without

They will also use rapid-fire wit and repartee during a flowing conversation effortlessly.

I think subtle signs are that they will listen to and give consideration to other people's opinions because they know that they don't know things. Their bookshelves hold books on a wide variety of subjects. They are always keen to learn.
