Do you love Weller? I am course meaning Paul Weller, rather than me. But I’ll happily accept any declarations of love.

I met him many years ago when I was in the Funeral Pyre video. A bit "pop-star-ish" but a nice guy. Bruce and Rick were a bit more fan-friendly. Loved the Jam's early stuff, not so much of a fan of Weller's solo work though.

That’s interesting! I didn’t really consider him to be Mockney/Cockney and he doesn’t hide his Woking roots.

Wow, how did that video appearance come about?

I do love the early Jam stuff, can hear it’s punk and angry young men influences. But I do love The Style Council and his solo work too.

I think in the early days Jam era he did.

I mean trying to make Slough sound tough is a big ask lol

Big fan of most of his stuff. Not into Style Council at all. Love all the solo and The Jam.

Did a big research project on him and dissecting his life and music and was very enjoyable.

I wouldn’t think he’s fake at all. Very blunt and direct and he’s embraced himself as an artist. Not much more to him then what you see I think.

Before wearing knickers and stockings used to wear a black suit as the bassist in a Jam tribute band. Still listening The Jam and The Style Council. Never really got into Weller as a soloist

My Dad was a friend of John Weller, they used to box together in the RAF.

Yes I was there. Will be on holiday for the Halifax gig unfortunately. I looks like a great venue for live music.

If you’ve not already, give his first solo album a listen. You can hear Style Council influences on it.

Oh that’s a shame. He’s normally great live. Although he’s well known for his v limited interaction with the crowd.

Yes I'm a Weller fan. Grew up in the Jam thanks to my Dad and having the uncanny ability to to know every lyric of Eton Rifles age 5. Only have the three albums "Wild Wood" and ,"Stanley Road" and "Heavy Soul" all amazing and documents to there time. I had his first solo album not sure what happened to it, a very underated album! You can hear his musical influence's and that Acid Jazz like sound. Great stuff and a true legend.

I love his first solo album. It’s one of my favourites of his. His later album “Saturns Pattern” is definitely worth a listen. I think it’s excellent. As is his two most recent albums.

I've heard of "Saturn's pattern" will check it out. The last album I heard if his had a track called "Dragonfly" on it. It had Graham Coxson on organ. That was years ago, don't think I've heard anything since.

Sonic kicks I believe it was called. Good album. May have to get some Weller on vinyl.

Derby and North Wales

Allegedly

The modster popped into a little chef some years ago the morning after a gig for breakfast.

The waitress said she was a huge fan and asked him for his signature.

He told her to F off and get his breakfast.

The kitchen staff kindly added a few unsavoury ingredients to his plate…. Unsurprisingly really.

Good musician, the Jam were great

But if that’s true, and I believe that it is, he’s a bit of a wanker

He’s definitely got a reputation. I’ve not met him, but follow a few fans forums and he seems to always oblige and is happy to have selfies etc. I think his reputation for being grumpy was earned ages ago before he quit the bottle, and because he disliked giving interviews.
