LMAO... I am genuinely asking for a word that is the opposite. Gloating could be but is is a tad negative and I was hoping for a positive word...like something people are proud of or pleased with?

I would guess the closest opposite to 'ranting' would be 'effussing' which I'm not even sure IS a word but certainly 'to be effusive' is in my opinion the closest you can get to ranting while still doing something. The reason I qualify it is because I imagine the 'pure opposite' to talking about what is bothering you would be keeping quiet about what is pleasing you lol.

"How about "rating"?"

So the opposite of say a Thursday Rant thread would be a Thursday Rate thread?

The Ranters. An interesting group of people who amongst other things delighted in gatecrashing churches during services and having sex in front of the congregations. 17th century.

Well, rating isn't exactly the opposite of ranting. If that's what you're asking?

I just thought there was a kind of neat symmetry about "ranting vs rating".

Of a Thursday morning you could decide whether to complain loudly about something/one that's got completely on the short side of your patience, or to share an enthusiasm and draw people's attention to the Good bits.

What d'you think?

Perfect - I would love for somebody to put up a positive "opposite to ranting" thread then. Not that I mind the ranters... (thanks Sexy for the definition) but I thought, being a positive kind of woman.. we should have a positive thread as well.

Well ... you'll have to wait till next Thursday for me to issue the Thursday Rating thread about something I'm really feeling positive about.

"how about "appraising" as the opposite of ranting"

I think I am inclined to go with "raving" simply because "ranting" is quite negative whereas "raving" is definitely positive. And it is a positive experience thread I am trying to create? Appraising is not quite strong enough maybe but thanks for your contribution

Raving is often used in the same way though 'Ranting and Raving' I think they are similar not opposite
