Our Beagle has his own bedroom I converted our under stairs cupboard for him

He has his bedtime and goes in himself and wakes us up around 8:15 every morning for his breakfast

The dog-human transmission route *appears* to involve fecal matter, so as long as your dog doesn't shit on your head in your sleep, you should be fine.
