It is just a grim day.

About the grimmest June day in memory.

Not even (round here at least)the usual thunderstorms characteristic of the first weekend in June. I've historically been in a tent over this weekend for many years doing radio stuff so I am very aware of the likelihood of electric storms coupled with the knowledge that we were the most strike attracting target around!

I have been in my dressing gown all day and only ventured outside twice to throw scraps for the birds. However, I have been back to bed twice and none of the phone callers I've had have been after nookie.

The evening, though, is young and desperation could still come into play...

"I'm stuck at work, here for another week at least and I've got zip to do for the next 5 days

Ohhhh.. What do you do? Gosh I'd love to have nothing to do for a week!

Offshore, I'm sat on a drilling rig in the middle of the north sea. Could be worse but I'd prefer to be at home

Fabbing +canteen then 'eh!

Plus massage chair and sauna!

Have drilling rigs been pimped up in the last 10 years or so? Asking for a friend

Most of the rusty buckets didn't survive covid.

This one is about 10 years old but is a decent spec. Coffee machines, carpet, decent cabins, reasonable tinternet speed.

We used to be lucky to get one phone call a day from the communal phone. Occasionally you might be able to use MSN Messenger from the logging cabin but often there was insufficient t'internet. It was like another era "

There is still the odd place that is lacking but generally it's reasonable most places now. I've been doing this 20 years, the difference is vast

I'm trying.

It was as disgusting as I remember.

If I keep drinking it maybe I will love it.

Nooooo.. You are too old to do things you don't enjoy

Are you saying I'm old?

This is why I need to keep drinking green tea. "

Oh i didn't think that through

"I got to the tip with a hire van full of stuff only to be told I had to have a permit that takes 48 working hours to get.

At my local tip, you need a bill showing where you live and a form of photo ID.

It might be because it's a van, so automatically classed as commercial? "

it is it’s all vans cars are fine.

"The electronic handbrake on my car has stuck locking the handbrake on just as I was going out. Presently waiting for a recovery vehicle to take it to a repair garage

"

In my ideal world, all cars would, by law, have a conventional hand brake capable of being reached by a passenger in the event of the driver becoming incapacitated. It could save at least one life and hopefully two.

Far too many ill thought out bright ideas on modern vehicles. Who designs these stupid things?

My electronic handbrake is sited in the same place as the conventional handbrake and it's just a little switch to pull upwards. Very easy for a passenger to operate.

To the person with the electronic handbrake stuck on, there will be a manual override thingy to pull to get it towed. You can also release via the switch, rather than by pulling away, if it'll allow it. Read your manual

Seemingly that has not been possible as both the rescue operative and the subsequent recovery vehicle driver who both seem vehicle type knowledgeable cannot release it and had to use sliders on the locked rear wheels to get the car onto the flatbed recovery vehicle .
