Men in Pink

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

I bought a jacket 11 years ago and didn’t wear it once, until yesterday, when I suddenly decided I’d wear it to a wedding.

It’s salmon pink and I was rather happy with how it looked. I was however quite staggered at how many men took exception of it, some even suggesting it was “gay”.

Do you like a man in pink?

Men - are you confident to wear pink?

I think some guys look amazing in pink but as with anyone, it depends on the shade and their skin tone as to whether it would suit them or not.

Lovely jacket OP

I went out today in a pink shirt and shorts, I did not receive not one gay comment from anybody. If I did, well that's their problem and not mine.

Not having a pop OP, but a lot of men wear pink these days.

One of the contradictions in typical masculinity is how you're supposed to be tough and strong, and yet a colour can easily defeat you. It's very silly.

There's a lot of judgement at weddings, about lots of things. Including what other people are wearing. It's tedious.

Pink jumpers and shirts were common for a while in the 80s when I was at high school. Only a teacher who was English (as opposed to an English teacher) commented negatively on them.

Nice Jacket Will, it looks smart. A shame some felt it necessary to equate the jacket’s colour with someone’s sexual preferences. I’m all in favour of traditional colours for genders but if someone wants to steer from those traditional colours, bravo to them and you pulled it off with the Salmon jacket, very smart.

Back in the age of empirialism the most masculine colour was pink, empire maps showed British colonies by pink colour. Men used to walk hand in hand with their besties.

The illegalisation of homosexuality changed everything. Pink was too masculine ie gay. It's why men stopped whering pink, it became a girly colour due to girly men...

Say hello to toxic masculinity and men being afraid to hug their mates etc

Yes, have a similar blazer to yours, never once received a adverse remark when wearing it.

I wear pink quite often. I'm more surprised that a jacket you bought 11 years ago still fits you!

Wirral.

I like your jacket, Will. I'd say it was pink though, rather than salmon. Salmon is a disgusting colour that should only ever be worn by bridesmaids that you don't like.

I think you wear it very well and suit the colour. Never mind what anyone else says OP x

"Will

The jacket looks good on you

Awww thanks, Flo - I thought so too. Was very interested to get the views and experiences of other men. Seems much more acceptable for everyone to just be themselves these days. Hurrah!

It’s classy … very Cambridge "

Now that statement adequately suits you OP! Very Cambridge be brave…. You know you can carry off colour so do it!

Happily wear pink shirts or t shirts if the mood fits. Even got a pair of pink socks too.

Oh yes please! Why don't you organise it? I think pink should be embraced; it's a strong colour on men.

I'm lazy, Meli. That's probably why I won't, but never say never. But I agree it's a strong colour!

Haha none taken. It didn’t fit for 7 of those hears, I had to shed 3 stone in order for it to fit again (although weight loss was part of a wider objective, not just so that I could squeeze into my salmon pink jacket again)

Thanks x
