Sleeping alone...

...I've just listened to a doctor say that people have different sleep cycles and sharing a bed leaves one or both chronically sleep deprived.

I feel like sleep deprivation is one of the reasons I don't want a traditional relationship where you share a bed every night. My ex didn't like the idea of not sleeping together, he said it's part of the bonding and I get that.

Maybe share a bed on days off?

How do other couples, who prefer to sleep alone, work it?

We opted for a super king size and separate duvets. Seems to work pretty well ... until I start snoring...

Hubby works night shifts (4 on 4 off) so we get the best of both worlds, although I can't say which nights I sleep better on

We also have a huge bed and both sleep the edge so it can be like sleeping alone

I guess it depends how quietly each person sleeps and how good the bed is. In some beds you can't tell the other person had moved. There's no hard and fast answer to this, it's what works best.

OMG..the snoring!! I just can't. I'd get woken up countless times during the night because of snoring.

It's my first question when interested in dating someone, how they feel about separate beds and whether they snore....

The ex used to boot me to the spare room if I had an early start.

She also used to moan that I wasn't in bed with her, when I tried to reclaim some of the sheets, when I rolled over, when I got up before she woke up. You get the jist.

Other partners I've never had an issue, we made space for each other, shared the bed, slept "together".

I work shifts so spend a lot of time sleeping on my own. I sleep much better on my own but prefer sleeping in the same bed as my wife.

I’ve struggled to understand my sleeping problems. I’ve read and tried all sorts.

I don’t feel better sleeping alone? No, it’s just the same, I wake often and sleep lightly so anything wakes me.

But there’s a nice contentment that I miss when I wake alone, nobody to hold and feel close too etc. Who doesn’t want to feel safe and comforted by someone else, even if your asleep or awake in bed.

We've chatted about this and both find that we sleep far better with someone else in the bed than when alone, 100%

I sleep so much better alone. I don’t think I could ever have someone sleep next to me ever again.

I’m not sleeping very well at the minute due to a shoulder injury I’m up and down all night .

I have painkillers etc in my drawer next to me so I’m not banging around stupid times in the morning and I don’t wake him .

Even tho we have spare rooms we would never sleep separately It just don’t feel right .The times when we’ve been apart I’ve struggled to get to sleep I’m just not used to not sharing my bed.

surrounded by twinkly lights

I'm a light sleeper and stir if he moves, so wouldn't do longer than a weekend in the same bed

A double bed with two single mattresses and seperate bedding would be nice if I considered it for the future

I definitely sleep better alone. I don’t have overnights unless I know the person well enough. I am not a sexy sleeper

Even with disturbances, we both prefer to sleep together in the same bed rather than separately

Foam mattresses are great at isolating movement from each other. We both sleep so much better now that we have one.
