Xmas party??? What's that.... Lucky if a Xmas drink is arranged then its touch and go if it goes ahead.... And yes I have to pay for it myself

when i worked in a nursing home we received nothing and had to organised/pay entirely for the staff xmas do.

when i worked for a home care company we all received a £50 bonus in our wages.

The company I work for now is the best I've ever worked for. Last year was my first Christmas with them and I received a bonus, bottle of decent champagne, hamper full of wines, biscuits, chocs, etc, bouquet of flowers and a Christmas meal (day off) with food and drink all paid for!

the company i worked for last didnt do xmas party's or bonuses but they did do a profit share every february on % of profit for the year worked out around £600-£800

Self employed but when I finally grow my empire, my staff will get a party with free bar, and a gift picked specifically for them to say thank you.

I think a company that makes its people feel valued gets a hell of a lot more back for it's money

We get a xmas party, in 5* hotel, with 5 course meal and all wine you can drink, plus great acts, had Alexandra Burke last year.

Also get a yearly bonus, equating to aroung £1500.00, full sick pay, travel to work vouchers if car share etc

I'm quite lucky, the company I work for throw a free Xmas party every year wine on the table etc but this year because its their 50th anniversary they have booked us all a room in a hotel and are throwing a black tie event so looking forward to that. We also get a weeks salary as an Xmas bonus every year.

I've just been TUPE'd to a new company within the last few weeks. They're tighter than two coats of paint. No bonuses, shit pay, have to pay for the Xmas night out and I'd have take an annual holiday if I wanted to go as it falls within my shift pattern. In March they are moving my place of work, which will mean, instead of a 40 mile round trip, it'll be a 130 mile round trip every day (On top of my 12 hour shifts). No redundancy if I decide not to go, just an offer of my own job, take it or leave it.

Think it's time I looked elsewhere

I run our family business, we are 100 years old. I still give the staff a weeks wage at Crimbo as a bonus, we always have. Even when times have been hard/er we have given them something even if its just £50.

In regards to a Crimbo party, thankfully they aint interested. Bunch of freaky oddballs, and thats just the family who work with me, never mind the peasents we employ

I try and do things like my Grandad used to. You need the day off as your Mrs needs to go to the dentist and have a filling, take it off, it wont cost you.

You charge someone cash for a job and he dosent need an invoice and I catch you putting it in your pocket, Im going to cut your balls off.

But no seriously, if you treat people with decency and respect wether you work for them, they work for you or any where in life, you'll get on a lot better.

You dont need many rules in life, but one important one is, treat people how you would like to be treated.

I work for a charity, so no extras for us.

Not an issue for staff members though, all the money goes to provide a service and to make sure clients have all they need, and a great xmas

We get nothing. We can pay to go on the works do - and I get a bottle of wine from the boss. That is a tiny one - enough for one glass.

And I don't even drink wine - which she knows. But I get it every year.

Times must be getting tight, for the last 6 years we have had a christmas meal with the wives invited, this year its just a free bar and a big raffle.

Oh and normally 20 hours of your wage as a bonus too.

Wife's company always has a big black tie do, all posh and everything is free, even her department xmas do is free for her.

I used to work for a home furnishing company. Who lets say was one of the most profitable last year. Our reward for late nights, shit hours etc? A mininiture Lindt bunny. No christmas party no nothing. Left them and working for an engineering company where i can see the rest of my life :D

If you had asked me this last year, I would've said I was very lucky! We got a bonus based upon profit and how long we'd been there. I ended up getting £1700 gross, split between two payments, so I was well chuffed

This year, the company didn't turnover as much, so we got a bonus of £600 gross (which is very generous), but it was deferred until our situation improves. This seems pretty unlikely though, as they've got to find a quarter of a million pounds worth of new business fast

we are havng a cgristmas party this year, we havent had one for a couple of years though

we have to pay towards it but not the whole amount. there wont be a free bar though, our lot cause enough problems when they have to but their own beer, god knows what they would do if the beer was free

we have been banned from several venues in town and one year a senior manager had her nose broken

I've been taken to ascot in a fully paid box. Going to the killers in November and a VIP box. Off to the gold cup in march.

They do make me work hard for it, but the rewards are worth it.

The company I worked for until being made redundant at the start of last year used to have an annual party, but that stopped back in 2009, due to "budgetary cutbacks!"

Then in February of this year, the Site Facilities Manager was suspended pending investigations into his budget controls; in short, he was found to have been embezzling for over 3 years; that included pocketing all the monies for the annual Staff Xmas parties - how low can you get?

At my current company, any tips the staff earn through customer's bills is supposed to go towards the annual staff party; in reality, the company keeps it and there is no party at all!

It is in my contract that I get up to X% of my salary as bonus per year, pay out once every quarter, exact amount dependent upon the performance of the company etc...

Every year, they throw an all expenses paid party, including transport, in the middle of the year for its staff and their +1s.

The company I work for was only started 13 years ago, and I joined nearly 10 years ago. We have had a fully paid for xmas party every year I have been there (Drinks, meal, usually a themed party somewhere and hotel with coach to and from the office so we can park there) When I stared there were 10 of us, and we have just taken on our 50th member of staff. Our boss is a great guy to work for, and we get a quarterly bonus, plus good holiday entitlement which increases by a day a year (to a maximum - he's not stooopid!) and most of us get car allowances and a fuel card (80% of ALL fuel bills paid by company)

We get treated very well, but we work damned hard because we enjoy our work, not because of the perks. They are just his way of saying thanks.

Some bosses are great - shame they all aren't!
