My ability to not give a flying fuck about external validation also helps.

I’m happy with how I’m ageing and do get told I look younger than I am.

I spent my 30’s looking after 4 young kids so didn’t have much sleep or time for me.

Now my kids are older I’m able to have more time to look after myself by going to the gym, having my hair done etc..

I quite like me in my 40’s.

The furrowed forehead has been there since start of adulthood, more wrinkles, the grey is there a little, I’m a bit squidgy, the boobs are still pointing forwards and my energy levels are good.

So all in all I’d say aye I am aging but really don’t give a kahoots, it’s all part of life and just go with the flow of what it brings.

For all those saying people keep saying they’re younger than they actually are : that might well be the case but you know, that’s the kind of thing that some people say just to be nice ..

“Happy birthday! How old are you today?”

“I’m 45!”

“Ooh really!” *genuine shock* “why, erm, I thought you were in your 30’s!”

(* really assumed they were in their 50’s but nobody ** EVER ** goes and says they thought you were older do they!? *)

It’s human nature!

But maybe you ARE the exception ..

I’m 59 in a few weeks and I think I’m doing ok, I do yoga and am generally active but don’t otherwise exercise as such but I stay reasonably slim and it’s not all falling apart just yet. I feel like my face has aged quite a bit in the last 10 years but I guess that’s natural regardless of how depressing it might be.

I've never looked my age but I am more frequently told that these days. I meet a lot of new clients and they tell me all the time if age comes up as a topic. I also still participate in active sports with a lot of youngsters'

I don't really care how I look, for me it's more about what I can still do.

I would say I look much better in my mid 40s compared to say 15 years ago,I was a much larger lady then and very unhappy with my life and myself.

My separation and ultimately divorce changed my whole life for the better.

I’m told by quite a few people that I look like I’m in my mid twenties. I’m actually thirty six. I still get IDed from time to time. I think it’s largely due to genetics but also I’ve always tried to be healthy. Never smoked, taken drugs and rarely drink alcohol.

I think I look ok for an old fart tbh. Pre menopause I think I looked better - I was slim then and the wrinkle fairy hadn’t beaten me up too much.

However - I eat fairly healthily and exercise regularly and don’t smoke/drink heavily or take drugs - which I think has helped me to not look like a complete hag yet.

I still scrub ok as my granny would have said. X

There's nothing wrong with being any age in my opinion, it's not as if it's negotiable .

I suppose youthful beauty is valued for all the traditional and cultural reasons we know so well. I use cream to try and hold back the vertical mouth lines (its not working) but nobody is going to believe me if I tell them I'm 40.

Also I don't believe the people who message me to tell me I only look forty
