" They are not wasting money, they are paying people tp do very difficult jobs and yes I include the teachers in that that some people seem to have mo respect for despite the fact that it's one of the most difficult jobs to do this day considering the issues kids have these days, not to mention the way they behave and often eith their parents blessing. Same with care workers who often look after some of the most vulnerable. I like my taxes to go to them with my blessing | |||

I do agree about the pay in the care sector, Police, on the fence with Trumpton as most have a well paying side lines, but I do appreciate the job they do (this is about pay after all before I get slated!)

I agree that they should fight for higher wages, and as I'm sure you'll agree most people who work in public service (emergency services, healthcare, armed forces) aren't merely there because its just a job to them, its a calling and they get immense satisfaction from doing so; unfortunately their paymasters know that they can get away with paying at little as possible because people will still turn up and do the work because its means more than a pay cheque. I take my hat off to those that are that altruistic, wish I was more so inclined!

I looked in my area and the hours are all full-time (37 hours). Council jobs vs private will vary in pay? Unsociable hours, working with rubbish, weekend & public holidays work in some cases. I thought the money didn't seem much for that. | |||

I would argue that for carers at least (I don't have a lot of experience with early years care) the big issue in terms of the quality of care provided is being being understaffed. Decrease the workload for carers and yes, there would almost certainly be an improvement in care standards. Pay them more isn't going to change anything for 'the most important groups of people' If local councils suddenly upped the amount of money available per person for care I would far rather that be spent employing more people than paying the ones already in the job more. I think the motor trade is about to experience a gigantic revolution, there is a shortage of high skilled techs ones who actually do the job, so the salaries of good ones is going to go up which the costs will be passed onto the customer. The other thing I can see happening is technicians will be more highly regarded in the dealerships than the previous gods, the car salesmen who in most cases are just order takers and more interested cruising around in a demonstrator than actually working. | |||

It’s not a question of discriminating between Ireland and England. I’m just asking which one you are referring to. The services in the country in which you live? (Ireland) . Or the services in another country (Britain).
I’m my experience, service levels and rewards vary massively between Britain and Ireland. For example, teachers are much more highly paid and valued in Ireland.
Labelling all public employees as lazy and incompetent, is, itself, lazy and unimaginative.

The services differ greatly, nhs in particular, but labelling them all as incompetent is just daft. For example, maternity hospitals in Dublin are among the best in the world, and doctors travel from all over the world to learn from them. But according to you, they are all incompetent. Just look at the G4s and serco run prisons for that answer. Yes SOME more senior civil servants are perhaps overpaid for what they do but in my personal experience the people on the ground work hard and are often doing the work of several people thanks to the dire understaffing which is caused mostly by the dreadful pay. And to go after the 'dancing nurses' during the pandemic is quite simply pathetic. | |||
