Hobby Bobbies given Tasers

Chelmsford

The Chief of Police has decided to arm his hobby bobbies with the Taser Laser gun which renders violent people out of it but has in some cases been used on innocent people and those not resisting. Should these part time volunteers have such power. I think it was Spiderman who said that with great power comes great responsibility... Will they give them to security guards next ?

What's going on here guys?

Ahh! Except they aren't all part time and they get paid so they aren't "helpers" or volunteer's.

If we take "in some cases been used on innocent people" its good they're given takers and not firearms.

They are often a dustman by day and Bobby at night. Volunteers called the Special Constabulary. They do policing as a hobby in the same way that a northerner keeps pigeons

I think he's referring to 'Special Constables' rather than PCSO's.

"Policing as a hobby" ?

Tom, do you know any police men or women? Do you have friends that do this job? If not, do you talk to the police in your community when you see them? Say hello, ask them how their day is, make general chit chat? You seem to have a huge issue with the police, like they are all out to do something underhand. They are human beings, doing a really difficult job. Maybe just lay off a bit and say hello next time you see one

It was actually Uncle Ben who said that. Not the rice guy, Spider-Man’s uncle.

They have the same responsibilities and are likely to face the same risks, so it's reasonable for them to have them.

I'm somewhat against tasers, due to the injuries and deaths that have happened but if the police have them, it's reasonable to have part time police using them too, I assume.

A "hobby bobby" is a special constable who has exactly the same powers and rights as a full time police officer. Not a PCSO a PCSO is a fulltime job within the police with limited powers and paid less.

A PCSO is not a Police officer.

So Specials carry batons and gas so why not train in and carry tazer?

I think Tom has a wierd belief that criminality is normal, acceptable and ok and anyone who is involved in any kind of law enforcement has no right to stop them.

He seems to belive no one has a right to property or to profit.

Im gaiming this from his shopliftings ok and other posts.

Next you'll realise the scandal that the military Reserves (who also do a full time civilian job) actually deploy into theatres of operation with live firing rifles. Same as their full time counterparts. Who would have thought?

I'm sure that they're not just given them. Personal assessments, training, competence, training, examination, training.... did I mention LOTS of training? If its anything like firearms training (and I imagine it is) then continuous assessment and qualification is necessary. Not something that they've just been handed and "here, give it a go".

So I'm happy to see those who are offering to stand in harms way to protect the majority are being given tools to help them get home at the end of their shift. About time!
