Vibram five fingers, look them up. Originally for sailors, now mostly used by runners. They are surprisingly comfortable.

Yes, but not very practical in a factory or kitchen or anywhere else where a solid cap is required for safety. Which is probably why shoes are not generally foot shaped....... With toes included.

Another issue is the differing length of people's toes. On some people the big toe sticks out the furthest, on others it's the toe next to it. Not an issue in most shoes as you just get them to fit the longest toe.
