Working weekends

Watching TV tonight and seeing ITV wish everyone a good 4 day bank holiday weekend, I immediately said to my partner 'well not everyone!' And it got me thinking.

People working in retail, hospitality, health service, postal workers, delivery companies, haulage, public transport, farming and agriculture, cleaners and so many more, regularly work one or both weekend days.

I will be working on the Saturday as usual.

How many of us still only work Monday to Friday now?

Is there still such a thing as 'the weekend'?

Just curious.

Back in the day I was a Monday to Friday kinda guy officially, but unofficially used to catch up with emails and stuff over weekends just to ease the pressure. Looking back I was a mug!

I work in healthcare and bank holidays are normally normal working days for me but I've actually got them both off this time. I'm in shock.

Up till the start of May I was working seven days a week, and also evenings, but due to things I've had to take a step back and now have Wednesdays off and started cutting back on evening work as well as it was just killing me ,,, with joys of self-employment as well as bills I guess

Whether you work bank holiday or not you still get your allocated days off and can utilise them when everyone else is at work so no crowds when you go out.

I work for a distribution company servicing hospitality, bank holidays are non existent! So jealous of all the normal people!!!

Some companies pay you prorata for them, you might get a bit more pay but not a sniff of an extra day off

Until I retired end December 2019. I worked continental shifts. So if lucky got one long weekend off a month . Friday 6pm finish until Monday 6pm start. That was of course not having to cover holidays. Which could mean the long weekends mostly not happening . But by booking a couple days or nights off . End up with a week off.

Self employed sole trader.

So work is done when work is an option, no sick pay/holiday pay, no paid overtime, no job sharing, no lunchtime cover, no flunky I can palm off the shit jobs on to.....

And the boss is a right twat tbh.

As owners of our own company, weekends are precious nowadays.

Previously though we both worked weekends as Mrs M had the horses and yard to deal with so I went in on overtime every weekend and reaped the rewards and eventually set us up as we are now.

Thankfully, it was worth the sacrifice.

So, we know what it feels like when every day just seems like the next.

It makes you appreciate the time that you have off even more.
