Secret hideaway in the pennines

Some 400 hours work in a 3d printer just sank in the local canal.

Been working on a four foot radio controlled ww2 liberty ship for the last couple of months.

Fitted all the RC equipment this weekend and today as it is my day off I decided to give the ship a full water trial, everything was going great till a load of ducks decided to take off, one of them hit the superstructure side on and tipped the boat over, all I could do was watch helplessly as it turned turtle then dipped stern first and slipped below the water

Iceberg dead ahead.

That's a labour of love. You gonna rebuild it?

Used to live on a boat till it sunk. Feel your pain. All you can do is watch. In the shallows by chance?

Gutted for you. I make a few models and I know how much time, skill, and effort that goes into them.

it was right in the middle of the canal, at its widest point by one of the locks so very little chance of recovering it

Perhaps give it a trial in the bath first?

it won't fit,I have float tested it in a paddling pool to do the ballast tests first, just bad luck, had the strike not been side on it would have probably just broke the masts

Hard to test collisions with ducks in the bath.

In future use some fishing line so you are able to recover

Is there any sort of recovery system you can add for future verions?

Like a bouy that is attached and either dragged behind or released when sunk, so you can hook that and pull it all in?

Sorry to hear mate. I was wondering could stabilizers be incorporated to the hull below the surface?

Why not 3d print a land going vessel?

"Why not 3d print a land going vessel?"

Cos then it wouldn't be a boat!

Absolutely gutted for you, OP. If it helps, trial and error is how most feats of engineering were achieved.

Keep trying, keep amending the design and any mitigations against future total loss. You'll make it work, eventually.

Ah you need to come on a visit to me - we've a model boating lake here where everyone takes their boats to show off.

It's not so deep, so if anything does happen you can just wade into it and fish the boat out (or give one of the kids who sit watching a quid to wade in for you).

I hope version 2 stays afloat longer!

Have you thought about magnet fishing?

I know the hull is plastic, but the RC gear inside will be attracted to a good strong magnet.
