BANG ..... Very loudly

I know it's firework night and all that but I didn't expect the whole house electrics to blow ...... And they have ........ Bum titty bum titty bumbumbum ...... Oh bugger now I have to get to the fuse board ....... Me thinks I could be gone a while .... If u all end up with no electric it will probably be my fault ......sorry in advance

Oh bugger what happened did you not remove the remnants if the bulb last night and switched oven on? Or did it just blow? Xx

Took out old one easey peasey, put in new one turned it on at the wall set the clock up and then turned on oven to make sure it was working and BANG and I nearly jumped out my skin, so turned it back off at wall and fook, bulb has welded itself to cooker and I don't have any electrics til I get to the fuse board and sort the fuses out bugger bugger bugger and I think I need someone to look at my oven too now ohhhhhhh shit

I went on the laptop and then worked out no internet dohhhhhhhhh .... so was on my ipad lol its amazing how much u cant do when u dont have electric and stuff we take for granted, I was gonna go and get showered and dressed and then remembered its an electric shower .............. grrrrrrrrr but have got power back now lol

It sounds like when you removed the old broken bulb you didn't quite clean the bulb socket out properly and a remnant of the old one was still in there making contact between live and neutral, shorting it out. When you turned the juice back on that completed the circuit and BANG, as you found out. I'm afraid you're going to need a sparky now but until you sort one out leave the oven isolated at the wall switch and that will allow you to get the rest of your electrics going again (if you haven't done so already).

thank u .............. yeah I have power again .............. and I vaguely remember the electrics had blown before - so now I am thinking it shorted out to blow the bulb originally a while ago ............. bloody cooker - and I have just gaily been informed by son - his electrician mate is on holidy til next sunday ........... grrrrrrrrrrrrr

right update ..................... I have got the bulb out in one piece - its amazing wot a little elbow grease and a few expletives manage to shift lol - and worked out having looked on the net for a new cover that maybe just maybe I might have had the wrong wattage bulb - oh ooooooooops I needed a 15w and not the 25w I put in ............ hence BANG !!!!! so I have trundled back to the shop and bought a new bulb (they come in packs of two - do u think thats significant for me!!!!!!?!!? lol) anyway I digress .......... put said bulb in oven, turned power back on - set up clock and hey presto bulb working ............. errrrrrrrrrr oven wasnt on at this point so I shut the door thinking it was some sort of trigger point thingy - bloody light still on - back to the drawing board me thinks .........................

see u all later .............. I will solve this bloody mystery ........ grrrrr

Nother update:-

I, me, lil ol WOMAN have identified the problem - can't flipping mend it I am too weak - cant lift cooker by myself lol ............. but know wots wrong and have told MAN that has come to my assistance - (he didnt wanna listen but I made him) and he has agreed I am right whooo hooooo - so have left him to sort it out - cooker is now in pieces in my kitchen and a screw head is beating him - dare I go out there and undo the screw ............ perhaps not u all cry let him do it lol

now I am gonna get all technical now :-

cos the green wire is resting on the side of the housing for the bulb and it either shorts or operates it lol - having to now take the back of the bloody thing to get to the bulb wiring to attach it properly ffs this was only a poxy bulb not a major rebuild the bloody oven ...........

Only just read this lot minx, make sure your contacts for all your wires aren't corroded ( they'll be covered in white if they are ) if they are get them nice and clean before you reconnect (wire brush or if no brush bit of fine sandpaper will do it.

It sounds like your shorting out , just make sure there's no way any off your wires are connecting .

Don't worry if your power goes off that's what its meant to do if there's a problem. Also make sure the bulb housing is nice and clean ,especially if its an old cooker ! If its still blowing your box, be safe and get a sparkie in.

NEXT UPDATE:

It now transpires I have a problem with my clock/automatic/timer thingy on the front of the cooker, if I put this on (which I have to - to make the cooker work) the light comes on continuously - so I appear to need a new one of them - luckily I am insured for all my appliances with British Gas - I think there is a call out charge type thing - but as I think the programmer thingy is gonna cost more than the call out charge this seems to be the way to go - only flaw on the horizon is that I have to clean my cooker tomorrow before calling them out .............. bum

You've got a bad earth minx , find that and it'll be sorted , and my moneys on it being the one for the light! Check both ends off the earth wire , where it starts and where it finishes.

If you can't sort it call out Bg, don't waste your money on parts that may not be the problem. An electrician will know in minutes where the fault is, sorry I'm not closer I'd pop round an sort it for you
