Comparing yourself is never good

It's horrible when you end up comparing yourself to others as all it does it cause self doubt, give you low self-esteem and ruins your confidence.

I used to do this in the past when I would see friends on Facebook going on holidays, getting married, starting families etc and it would make me feel like I'm being left behind and wonder what am I doing wrong.

It's the same as on here. There was one time a while back where I would see everyone talking about all the fun times they have with their friends and once again, it would make me feel left out and wonder what am I doing wrong.

I learned to stop as I realised that I'm only seeing small snippets of their lives and that I shouldn't compare myself to others. I also learned to enjoy being me, love my body and be happy with who I am.

Whoelse agrees on this?

I agree, people only allow you to see what they want you to see

Look at social media, so many people posting about what they have and their 'perfect' relationships when it's not the reality

True. It's the same with sex as well. I haven't had any in months but I refuse to complain about it as it would do me no good comparing my sexlife to others.

Turn all that shit off dude. It’ll only drag ya down. My life is so much more fulfilled without the usual social media outlets. Just be the best version of you. Compete with yourself. Only compare yourself to yesterdays version of you.

Humans are social creatures, it's absolutely normal to look around and compare yourself to others. If those comparisons always make you feel worse about yourself then the issue is more likely low self esteem to begin with rather than the process of comparison.

I compare myself to old pictures too, pretty happy with the way I’m shaping up apart from a bit of belly fat

It’s an interesting one.

Generally I have lowish self esteem and sometimes on here I’ll see a thread and think ‘well there are some super hot guys here, I might as well not bother’.

But on the bright side I’m lucky in that I enjoy beauty in all its forms so I just have a good perv instead and it makes me feel much better haha

Agree with a lot that's already been said - you only see what they want you to see, may all be true but equally could be mainly false. That includes in here too

Absolutely, it’s the worst thing to do.

It’s also why I hate it when people compare me to others, it’s a proper p*ss boiler.

100% this.

Who cares what others claim they are doing? We all know that 123.6% of what people put on social media is made up so that they look better.

Live your life and do what you want.

No matter how clever you are, how attractive, how funny, how rich, there will always be someone more clever, more attractive, funnier, richer.

While it is natural to look at others (particularly on a site like this where we're looking to attract people), I try not to get too hung up on comparing myself to my peers.

I'm fucking glorious, on my own or in company, and that'll do for me.

If you are going to compare yourself to someone else, do so favourably is my motto.

Never compare yourself. Understand you are totally unique and that is incomparable ultimately.

View it more as diversity and diversity is unlimited and all equally valid in reality

You have to remember in these cases you are watching the trailer and they are playing the whole movie.
