There’s been a couple of pitch invasions this week and last night Patrick Viera kicked out at a fan who was provoking him.

No doubt he’ll end up with a ban or a massive fine but surely he’s within his rights to protect himself against an idiot goading him.

Since the pandemic people seem to have forgotten how to behave at football matches.

Stadium closures and life bans are the way forward.

I love football but some of the stuff this week has been a joke.

I hope Patrick doesn't get a ban. He had every right to have a pop back at that idiot.

He has a defence in law for self defence. The fan on the pitch is trespassing and committing a criminal offence. Vieira is in his rightful place and is allowed to defend himself. Good on him for sticking the lad on his arse! Can only imagine what the fan was calling him inches from his face!

Goading is not a crime in the UK so it won't go well for him. Sadly it is one of the darker aspects of society that people feel they have the right to express their disappointment at anything and everything, which they do, though they seem to do it in anyway they wish which is selfish and irresponsible. I say take the fine and kick the git in the face, you can probably afford to knock out a few teeth and fracture his mandible.

I don’t get why the fan was doing it. They’d just scored the goal to keep them in the Premier League. Viera was just the manager in the opposite dugout.

I think the fact he’s been punished so quickly is being used as the deterrent rather than the actual punishment.

I think points deductions would stop fans. Especially if it was for the game where the invasion takes place. Pitch invasions usually only happen for winning the league or staying up. If the points are deducted then they’d be relegated or forfeit the league title. Fans wouldn’t invade if that was the case.

I can’t speak for other clubs but getting a ticket at Newcastle is nearly impossible. Never mind getting hundreds to start a pitch invasion.

The actions last night at Goodison were appalling and I hope the FA take action although I'm not holding my breath. Flares were thrown into the Palace section, one hitting a young girl, Andersen was hit by a middle aged female fan when he went to retrieve the ball, a flare was waved at Eze and there are stories of Benteke being hit at the final whistle. Pat was quite right to defend himself, disgraceful that there was no security present to escort him off. I'm really surprised that the referee didn't take the players off after the first pitch invasion. Seems like Blackpool have been given a suspended three point deduction for a pitch invasion by the EFL, about time the Premier League did the same thing, starting with Everton.

Not always true. A friend of mine was jailed for an incident that had nothing to do with football just because it happened on the way home from a match.

If it happened any other time he would have got a fine and maybe some community service.

Been following my team for over 40 years both home and away. This has been waiting to happen for near on 10 years I would say. Check out the crowds? Very few families..mostly angry blokes. Now let's just see who is in London this Sunday. Leeds at kings cross. Man UTD and Everton at Euston and Chelsea are at home as well. Good luck with that lot!

As a Liverpool fan and living in Liverpool Everton vs Liverpool used to be the friendly derby but they bitterness and pettiness has soured that and most of there Fanbase now act like thugs and animals, after the Derby at Anfield the smashed up and damaged the Anfield road end and went to Hotel Anfield looking to cause trouble. It in there DNA now and wasn't surprised they acted like idiots invanding the pitch and endangering the Crystal Palace team and Viera. The FA should slap the book at them a 20 point dedecution and the fans that invaded the pitch banned for life.

This is my view as a season ticket holder at Bramall Lane. I've noticed incidents starting to creep into the stadiums over most if this season, home and away. Flares bring thrown, drinks being thrown, people sneaking pints onto the stands, grown men arguing when security ask them to stop standing on the stairs etc.

In my view it comes from a wider problem in society, a lack of respect for rules or the law. People aren't worried about police and have adopted the attitude if the law makers and law enforces don't follow rules then why should I. Last league game at Bramall Lane I witnessed parents dragging their k.ids onto the pitch and arguing with security when they tried to stop them. These patents must have heard the request by the club not to go on the pitch and must know it's a criminal offence.

I see men at games pissed out their heads but they get into the games, openly doing drugs in the toilets and no one interviens. The stadium stewards don't have a clue or desire to do anything, most are either elderly, petite or don't speak English. I've seen guys refuse to be frisked down and the stewards just go OK. I don't blame the stewards, for what they get paid it's probably not worth the hassle. I rarely see police physically in the stadiums anymore.

Until society changes it's attitude then nothing will change. I fear one day that a player or manager could be killed. Guys need to realise it's not big it macho to behave that way.

33 years ago pitch invasions were common so fans used to be caged in to protect the players. In Hillsborough there was a crush in the stands because of bad policing and 97 Liverpool fans lost their lives. As a result of this the cages were torn down and fans started to realise that if they invade the pitch and the cages go back up their lives were at risk. This was a new dawn for football and peoplem were able to take their kids to matches and enjoy a family day out. I am amazed that Everton fans from the same city as Liverpool seem to want to take football back to the dark ages. Maybe because the last time they won a trophy was way back then.

Its not all the fan base but some of there fanbase now are just bitter and petty I think the Club has build it up calling it the 'peoples club' implying they are the most supported club in the city which is wrong also calling there club shop in Liverpool One Everton Two but I think our Success hasn't helped ether as Everton has been run so badly while Liverpool since FSG has come in steadied the ship and brought success while Everton haven't won a trophy since 1995 which is nearly 30 years and most campaigns ether finished mid table or are in a relegation battle. It simply jealously really.
