Ooh not had that for years.

On the rare occasion I fancy a toasty cheesy treat I fumble at the back of the kitchen cupboard in the corner, just behind the George Foreman grill and potato ricer, and pull out the toastie maker.

Put it in the toaster. When it pops, put the cheese on and melt under the grill. Nice crispy crust too.

Hendos or lea and Perrin's when the cheese gets a bit hot and sweaty, not on the dry cheese.

Make a cheese toastie (add ham or whatever else you put in it) put it in the air fryer, flip it and put more cheese on top and melt for a minute or 2. Game changer.

Get away with your microwave nonsense. How very dare you?

Bread, toast one side and flip.

Put on top emmental cheese and lots of it

Grill it till the cheese fluffs up.

Additional, prior to adding the cheese add crispy fried onions on top of the bread.

Using the George Forman which is cleaner than a Breville by a long way:

bread, bacon, cheese, egg, cheese, bacon, bread

Technically you can miss out the cheese and even the egg if you like but this would be against the spirit of the question even though it is an obvious salute to the god of bacon.

Spread marmite or mustard on one piece of bread, and ketchup on the other. Put the cheese (strong cheddar) between the spread sides. Then spread butter on the OUTSIDE of one side of the sandwich and dry fry, butter side down. While it's cooking, butter the other side. Flip when browned. Eat with a nice hot cup of tea. Mr K.

Toaster for initial toasting, grated cheese on top and under grill until the cheese has started to melt, then add Maggi seasoning and mixed herbs, back under grill until cheese begins to toast (these gorgeously tasty orange bits)

Cheese toasties? That's a different ballgame. Butter the outside of the bread, cheese and pickle in the middle. Pickle goes nuclear levels of hot while the butter on the outside gives a lovely crunch...
