And old work colleague of mine said to me once that a man’s memory is like a building full of filling cabinets, we can go to a room, then a cabinet, then a drawer and can pull a file and only see what’s in that file. If you’re lucky you might see a file either side by mistake. But a womens mind? That’s a spiders web of information, which is why you can start a discussion and end up apologising for something you didn’t do 10 years ago.

And it’s got me thinking. I’ve always agreed to a point, but…..

Do the men of the forum ever wish you had a better memory?

Do the ladies ever wish they could forget?

Do those who define differently fit into either? Or one? Or differently?

Does anyone disagree?

It's the opposite way around here.

I've found if I (Mr) have an emotional reaction or feeling to a moment, I'll remember it clearly and can soon be taken back there.

Any emotion, happy, sad etc etc

I disagree, I have a pretty good memory, and I test it regularly. It depends on what you’re trying to recall and the modality that you first get given information, through book or face to face etc I suppose?

I forget everything! I can't remember what I had for tea so remembering something from 10 years ago is a big ask

I do have a good memory. It's not a good thing. Actually, no, sometimes it can be. Really useful. Other times it's... well one of those great powers comes great responsibility things. It's also not related to me having a vagina.

I wish I had a better memory. I had a stroke (and not in a good way!) a few years back and the only think that’s I’m left with is a poor memory.

That's all very well until you give the menopause and then it all goes to shit!

Memory to me is life once im forgotten i no longer exist

Saying that iv a long history of dementia in the family so il forget that i believe that soon enough

I'll tell you what's in your file men.. housework. Do it.

As for women, I remember things that have effected me in a certain way. I don't wish to forget these things as they are usually show who and what is best for me.

Limiting the response to the forum and this site it's often obvious that many people have very short memories.

Either that or selective memories.

That's based on people sending exactly the same messages a few months apart.

Arranging to meet and then forgetting.

Meeting people and forgetting they had ever met.

Not meeting people but choosing to select a non existent memory that they had met when talking to others.

Expelling people from external chatgroups for predatory behaviour but choosing to forget that when they leave the site and return a short while later with a new profile and inviting them to rejoin their group.

And so on...

All very boring but selective memory among both men and women is a useful tool where perceptions and optics are important and it's not always about spiderwebs and very often about selecting a file from a specific filing cabinet and placing it in a different one to suit a particular agenda.

I have a really good memory without even trying and honestly wish I didn't. It just seems to cause me pain, remembering things people have said. Especially in those situations where they don't follow through with their actions.
