When I see a suit worn today, the message I get from the wearer is 1. They have no confidence, and have to hide behind a suit. 2. They are projecting a superficial image, so this is deceptive, and the individual cannot be trusted. 3. They are following expectations, instead of setting their own. Sorry to the old school, but a whole fashion industry telling people they have to wear suits to be successful is just as insidious as the myriad ways the fashion industry pressure other people. I have in the past worn suits in a number of professional industries, so I do have experience of the power-play dynamic behind them. I've seen people rejected in the workplace because they were wearing the "wrong type of suit". Either too formal, or too casual. I've worked in creative media where no one wore suits, thus removing the opportunity for division. So I have been fortunate to see "both sides". What interests me is the deeper psychological factors, both positive and negative in to suit wearing, and the manufactured pressure of the fashion industry and society as a whole blindly following it without question. "Because it is expected". By who precisely ? And why ? And what right do they have to expect another to conform to their ideal ? I once had 2 salesman visit me, arriving in a brand spanking new BMW. And they wore highly expensive suits. Looking out the window before they even arrived in Reception, I made a value judgement (we are a highly visual species after all). "These guys are out of my budget range. And this is not their real image, it's a projected one. I don't have time for this nonsense or deception." Within 10 mins of meeting them, during the "our company are successful" bollocks, I'd been offered a jolly in the Directors Box at White Hart Lane. I called it there and yeeted them out. They asked why and I replied "Someone has to pay for that. And the new Beamer. And the expensive suits. I don't do kickbacks or coercion/inducements and I'm not beholden to anybody. Thank you, but now get out". So "Suits" to me are all part of that "Phoney Package", I'm sorry to say. | |||

Properly fitted kilts, with socks, boots, shirt and jacket. Worn in the Scottish tradition. Bonus points for a sgean in the socks, and rugby thighs. Ooh err, I appear to tick all these boxes.
Although it is probably ghillie brogues rather than boots with my kilt.

"A well cut, and properly tailored suit can be incredibly sexy, especially when paired with a crisp shirt and appropriate shoes. Bonus points for cufflinks. There is an aura of confidence and power exuded. The jacket can be slipped off, the shirt cuffs folded back, exposing forearms; a leather belt.... ...sorry where was I? Oh yes and kilts.
