Coming out in public

I remember when Freddy was still alive and one of the men told me 'I'm not ashamed to admit I like Freddy mercury'(late 80's). Now as soon as a famous person comes out the 'cloest' everyone cheers for them. When will humans embrace

'other' relationships (Tantra, swingers, naturist, poly and Hedonistic lifestyle). As soon as my friends hear I've been into Tantra they think it's all about sex. But it's not. Okay it is 'higher orgasms' but it's deep in history and human evolution. I think so. One of my work mates was so amazed at how open I was when talking about sex. But why not? We're all adults, nothing you haven't seen or not got.

I use to know this lady who just had an insatiable sex drive. She thinks about it every day. 'who can I have it with today'? Literally. Some people were intimidated by the energy she had. I thought it was incredible. I loved it. Embrace the energy and harness it I say.

I liked Freddie anyway. Couldn’t give a toss about his sexuality. Never heard of this footballer fella so I neither like him or or dislike him.

I don’t think I have an answer to the rest of the post. Was it a question? I can’t even remember now. Something about women’s orgasms. I’m all for that

I'm not gay so perhaps I have a poor perspective of this, but I've never understood all this coming out malarky. Why do people feel the need to announce it?

By announcing it, it's almost making an issue out of something that's a non-issue, and surely nobody else's business.

I don't wear underwear. Commando is the future. The underwear industry will go bankrupt.

I think it's nice that society is more accepting of evolution. But telling everyone your personal life is a bit much.

Huge numbers of people do not think its a non issue, for a start. There's still loads of homophobia around.

So coming out publicly can be a way to assert your strength and that you're not ashamed.

If we're talking about the footballer that just came out, then it should be easy to understand that this is very rare in football, and a brave step in making being gay in sport less of a stigma.

Announcing your gay/bi or straight?.what does it matter?,we are human beings. If i got a gay male and lesbian female or a bi male and bi female and a tv/ts and cut them, would they not all bleed the same colour blood?,so why should it matter what sexually they are?.

I have to regularly ‘come out’ especially in new relationships. Due to my crossdressing you’d rather tell a new partner before they accidentally find out. Also as I shave completely it saves lying why you shave your legs, arms etc…

Coming out saves being exposed and allows you some say over how it’s done and when as well.

I understand why the footballer (Jake) has decided to do it. Blackpool has a very good gay area and sooner or later he’d have been spotted. Maybe nobody would care or maybe it’d be in the local paper, either way he’s taken control of the situation, something I’d advise anyone to do.

I said the same. What would make me think that everyone would be super interested to know what my sexuality was? Do I have a book coming out at the same time?

Good luck to him and all the privacy he would like to enjoy.

And if he’d like to highlight how normalised it should be in sports etc….. why make a fuss?

*this is al said light heartedly, I have no thoughts either way, over my coffee break with my workmates

The majority of gay/bi men/women come out to their family and friends and don't give newspaper interviews about it. I think famous people whatever their status is come out to take control of the situation because the media spotlight is on them. Also imagine being in a relationship and they split up. One ex partner has the power to out them.

Many people have learned to be ashamed, or to see themselves as inferior to others. Coming out can allow people to make some peace with themselves.

For the famous, it may be because gutter media are about to break a story on them, so coming out helps them to reclaim their power and to do things on their own terms.

Things can be very hard and complex for many people who are in minority groups, in ways that those of us in the majority don't perceive.

Mental health issues, suicides etc are considerably greater in such minorities, reflective of the greater invisible to others burdens many are under.

Like others have said, I imagine it's being proud of who you are, wanting everyone to know so you don't have to hide yourself anymore.

Yes lots of people are accepting, or it's a non issue, but for those who have struggled to accept their sexuality it can be a huge relief.

Gareth Thomas is the first well known rugby player I know to have come out as gay and that wasn't that long ago. Not sure I've heard of any footballers to come out.

Maybe it'll help the sport with its other issues like racism.
