Within about 5 or 6 messages on another site, it sort of makes alarm bells ring. Or at least it does for me. What are your thoughts?

Someone asking to chat off site within a few messages means they are usually scammers or trying to get you to invest money in a crypto currency scheme. I've had loads on Facebook dating. I only stay on there to reel them in and shame them.

I actually don't mind sharing my number if I'm getting along okay chatting. That's what the block function is there for if they turn out to be a tit. Mostly stick to kik/telegram if it's on offer though

Are you on any dating sites? They're full of men pretending to be widowed engineers with a child who lives in the US. Or US Marine divers with a child overseas. Most have terrible English and talk about how they want to lavish women with love.

I don’t tend to give my number to people from fab unless I’ve met them, though there are exceptions.

I give it more freely on dating sites, though always after a fair few messages. I’m not sure why that is though as I find men on fab overall more respectful and decent than many on dating sites.

I did have a call from a withheld number late at night a few days ago sounding like he was having an asthma attack and asking if I was in bed yet. I’ve been scrolling through my WhatsApp convos trying to work out which one is the weirdo without asking them

I think people over think the use of WhatsApp when it comes to chatting.

After all, you can do the same on there if you don’t enjoy the chat or exchange, by blocking and deleting them!

Kik isn’t reliable and snap chat can get annoying. And using other apps just means your using excessive amounts of storage on your phones so just stick to the easy option.

Better yet don’t give them your number and keep using fab for communication, if they don’t like it, move along.

If you share a phone number that you use elsewhere, you risk:

- social media accounts being hacked or controlled

- as we use SM accounts to login to other apps and platforms this could mean additional hacking/impersonation

- having your information passed to 3rd parties who could spam your number

- Sim-jacking which means hackers can gain access to your bank accounts

Google it if you don't believe me.

Yep, me three ...

Me four. I take the view that if someone continues to chat on WhatsApp outside fab then they actually are pretty invested I wanting to meet, and by and large if they're happy to give out their number then they're less likely to have anything to hide about their living arrangements."

Yup to that but I've had little success on Kim and I find telegram a bit intrusive but that might be because of constant pings from group chats in it.

Yaxley

If we like the look of the person/couple we are happy to give out our WhatsApp’s quite early. That way we can make a group chat between the 3 or 4 people so we can see everyone is genuine and both members of the couples are into it

We have a second number for this side of life, so giving it out isn't an issue and they can be blocked anyway. Wouldn't think twice about offering it if we were getting on.

"My thoughts are they are probably single. No married man gonna risk their phone pinging at random times."

You would think the amount of married and partnered guys that send me their mobile number is unreal.

Probably I don't give out my personal number anyway. Unless I really know the person usually after we've meet

^This is also how I see it "

You can mute a WhatsApp thread. We have a couple of phone numbers for married guys and they mute it when at home and un mute and chat when they're at work.

We also have a guy who doesn't mute but only my hubby chats with him through WhatsApp, if I want to chat with him or he wants to message me its done on here. When hubby messages him it's generic and in code, like, do you fancy a pint this weekend

Exactly - I've a dual SIM phone so if I was that bothered I'd get a PAYG and slot it in (oo er Mrs). A four way group message between couples is open and all above board. In reality for me if you can't hold a conversation with me/us on the phone then what confidence do you think I will have that you will commit to turning up and talking to my/our face let alone insert appendages in each other?
