Stubborn me (for the ladies)

Jump to newest

By *ora the explorer OP   Woman

Paradise, Herts

Finally saw the doctor today.

I can deal with this menopause stuff

I don’t need help, I don’t want tablets etc

I don’t have time to go docs and deal with this

I’ll be ok

I deal with everything

I don’t want to come off the pill. I don’t want that scary coil thing that’s supposed to kill having it put in!

So that was me before.

After reading a few things on here, finally watching the programme and a girly lunch and chat with my friends last week and the fact I am a fucking witch to live with and after reading the symptoms I have 75% of them I decided to do something about it and a plan has now been set.

So what I’m trying to say is ladies please don’t be like me! Do something about it!

I’m hoping to bring you lovely nice placid Nora in the near future

Much love x

I’ve always been like that. If it’s one of the kids I’m get to the doctors now. Me, I just get on with it. I go to the doctors about once every 2 years with a list . I should have done this a lot earlier really. Make time! X

Yeah this is what worries me a bit. I’m on the pill where you take it straight through so haven’t had a period for years. The reason I went on it was because they were so horrendous. This is the main thing that’s stopped me really x

Well done Nora- I hope it all goes well.

If my wife is anything to go by I recommend you keep monitoring the HRT on a regular basis. It is not a "fire and forget" treatment although GPs would love you to walk away. Tinkering is standard practice.

Hooe you are ok Nora! I fear I may too be headed down this route but holding off for now

Though I had a letter from the NHS referral service today saying I have been referred to a specialist and need to make an appointment....

I don't know what it means or who I am seeing because I've not been to the Dr's in a while and the last conversation I had with them was I had to make an appointment to talk to him about my heavy erratic periods. But I never did

Will ring tomorrow and see

If it is to do with this I’d take it. It’s really hard to actually get to see someone for the first step! I’d tried before a few times and couldn’t get in so just left it and left it and left it again! x

I’d pretty much blanked everyone. I actually went on citalopram for a while but it did nothing. I thought it was depression but I think it’s all linked. No reduction in libido unfortunately though

Good for you for going!

I never had a lot of discomfort having coils put in or out, the side effects of the Mirena were horrible for me though - even outweighed having no periods! I managed it for six months and had to have it out. Does make me concerned that my lack of tolerance for hormones means I’ll have to suffer the menopause when it hits full force (I think it’s starting a bit)

I hope you get some good results xx

I have chronic pain/fatigue anyway, so I don't think I could be much more tired. Brain fog is pretty normal for me too... I guess I'll see how things are over the next few months.

Coil insertion... I nearly p@ssed out having one fitted (copper) was laid on the couch for about an hour until I felt well enough to leave. Considering the mirena, to see if that's any better, but always struggled with anything that has hormones. Yet I know others who never had any issues with it.

I spent two years with the doctors telling me, its your age and not as much blood as you think! I was using two super plus and they were barely lasting an hour!

Eventually I had a scan and they discovered adenomyosis. Had the mirena coil fitted. No pain and my symptoms disappeared almost overnight

However, peri menopause affected my mental health which was already dodgy. Hot flushes and night sweats horrendous but can't take anything else whilst I have the coil

The joys of being female!

I really don't know how you ladies know that you've hit the menopause. If I Google menopause symptoms I have so many but the symptoms can also be present because of how my life is ie tiredness, can't sleep, emotional can all be put down to what is happening in my life.

Can doctors carry out an accurate test to see if you are actually menopausal?

I’m current in perimenopause hell… low mood, anxiety, night sweats & my god the brain fog.

Needed to get a new coil as the progesterone has stopped working and they needed to replace this before prescribing hrt..

Cue… going to get it removed & replaced & they couldn’t find the fucker. So awaiting hospital appointments for this.

Topped off with a result from a smear showing I need further investigations… it’s looking like a long haul to fix!

It could be perimenopause…. Which can only be diagnosed by symptoms as hormone tests are not accurate as they vary so much at this stage.

Menopause matters has a common list of perimenopause symptoms.

Menopause is only usually diagnosed if you haven’t had any periods for a significant time if you’re not on the coil or jab.

I’m the same as you, keep saying I must make an appointment but can’t be arsed, telling myself I can live with it, but keep getting hints everywhere that I should go, had a letter about breast screening, then smear test came through and just today blood pressure check, something tells me I’m getting old.

As for the Mirena coil I had it taken out, I could only put up with it for 6 months.
