Personally, I try to always be polite and well mannered. I think it’s beholden on us all, especially in an increasingly fractured society. Agree? Disagree?

I agree.

- “If you don’t quite mind me asking, would you by any chance like to get naked with me at any convenient time of yours.”

Is much better than - “FAF?”

Disagree. Cause chaos. Kick people. Don’t say Thankyou. You’ll be remembered

What do you see as manners? Saying please and thank you? I sometimes forget or I've got something on my mind. It doesn't make me rude

Definitely. If you don't mind your P's and Q's, you're likely to get your face stoved in by Colin Firth

It's the very foundation of a civilised society, once that goes everything else crumbles.

"What do you see as manners? Saying please and thank you? I sometimes forget or I've got something on my mind. It doesn't make me rude "

It's so ingrained in me, I don't think it would be possible for me to not say please or thank you!!

It’s just about respect. It’s not just please and thank you

Agree, but people do sometimes force your hand, with their own attitude.

I believe in reflecting back what's aimed at me , if you come at me nice and politely your get a nice polite guy back. If you choose to come at me spitting fire and vinegar your get a guy spitting fire and vinegar back at you .

I think manners are important. However, I also think they can be used to inappropriately chastise others (see: I said please in my message on Fab, she didn't reply, I'm gonna cry about how rude people are) and try to impose one kind of cultural norm over another.

Manners as courtesy, thinking about how to be better to others around you? Great.

Manners as "you must do what I want, see, I followed the formula! Your formula and your needs don't count!", particularly with a side of "I'm a superior human being because I know what the word please means"... That's welcome to fornicate off from whence it came.

Manners are in place to make life easier so we all know how to behave in certain circumstances. Respect on the other hand is what makes us behave well

Manners are important, and you certainly notice them when absent, but don't appreciate people who get too Hyacinth Bouquet over them!

(For the younger residents (ok, Steve) that's a 90s' cultural reference...)

Yes, absolutely however the anonymity of social media is making us easier to be ruder to people online knowing that there is very unlikely to be any significant comeback.

That’s so spot on. It’s a bit like when people start with ‘I’m not being funny’ then proceed to insult you!

No offence intended... (Insert something hideously insulting here).

The manners formula isn't a get out of rudeness jail card...

Surely it should be good manners for everyone? Not just men? But yes, there are some people who, while being über polite, are actually very much the opposite.

Agree, I always try to say thanks to people, from drivers who stop at crossings, shop staff, servers, the postie... Doesn't take much and doesn't cost anything.

Manners cost nothing, and I still hold the doors open, when anyone says thank you, I always say you’re welcome
