What do you like about it?

What do you not like about it?

And any other interesting facts or trivia about it that you want to share!?

Well my nearest major town is Reading, what can I say about it? Well it has a nice shopping centre or at least did. To be honest I’ve not been in since the pandemic began and you know, Debenhams, House of Fraser, Burtons, Dorothy Perkins and the like have all shut now so gawd only knows what it’s like now.

The best bit? Well the A329 takes you OUT of town quite quickly …

(Just kidding Readingonians. It’s a LOVELY town really!)

But yeah, I’d rather hear about YOUR locality, Fabsters.

North West

It's mediocre at best. The town centre is an absolute shit hole but we live a fair way out. We're in the ether between it and another former mill town (equally depressing). We have decent countryside on our doorstep but Peel Holdings own a massive swathe of it and want to concrete over it

I lived in Reading. My youngest was born there. Nice place but the traffic is diabolical. Especially to and from Caversham

Redhill is not much at all

especially when compared to its much posher sister Reigate. My house is tucked away in a little place that doesn’t feel like Redhill. What I like- I can be in Central London in 30min, I have both Gatwick and Heathrow Airports close by. Worthing and Brighton are close too if I fancy some fish and chips by the sea…

so I can escape often, lol.

Seriously, it’s not a bad area to live in. I love my house.

It's by the sea, we've got lots of historic stuff, even a castle... Or 2, good transport links. Nearly always something going on, good arts scene, music/theatre.

Over crowded, too much student accommodation, bit grubby in places. Shopping centres aren't all that.

In the west.

My home town, I'm only 5 miles away from it, can be a bit of a dump. It was a very industrious town until the mid-late 80's. It has the same problems as every other town in the country but I don't think I'd live anywhere else.

I love my little Oswestry Town, typical market town which borders Wales, it used to be under Welsh control but the English stole it back, very historical place and named after St Oswald who was hung drawn and quartered here - Oswalds Tree. In Welsh it translates as Croesoswallt - St Oswalds Cross

Guinevere was allegedly born here, just outside the town on the oldest hill Fort

Nearby the village of Whittington is said to have been where Dick Whittington came from and nearby Babbinswood set the scene for Babes in the Wood.

Oswestry has buildings dating back to the 1300's, we have lots of little independent shops including the best delicatesens and eateries, with quirky giftshop. We don't have a shopping centre but we do have the usual stuff you find on the high street.

We have an artisan market twice a week which is very popular, you can buy literally anything with all kinds of street foods

We have a continental market once a year and an artisan food festival, along with a balloon festival

Per Linstrand and Richard Branson own the Balloon factory here

And we have a cool Mayor... Young guy who is covered in tattoos and listens to heavy metal

There was a rather big music scene around here in the nineties and home to Oasis. Stone Roses. Happy Mondays Inspiral carpets, M’people….. you might have heard of them?

Also 2 bombs have exploded here in recent times and it’s changed our lives for ever both times. Some more than most

We live in Scunthorpe (someone has to), and although we’ve lived a fair few places down South and in Wales with Hubby’s job, we’re both from outlying villages to here, and it’s home. Not the nicest place, not the worst xx

Hereford

Hereford:- a city famous for its cider, it’s bulls ( not the sort cuck couples are interested in) and a bunch of secretive guys who seem to have their eyes blacked out. In truth it’s a small market town were most of the peoples imagination is comparable to the town size, the traffic is chronic for the size of the place and most of the time the town stinks of chicken offal.

I hate how much it gets trashed during the summer when tourists come to visit

It's a quiet seaside town...not too commercial but nice events now and again in Summer. I don't like some of the spending by the council on strange things which majority don't agree with.

It has a Mayor that is good at blaming every one else when he realises his (lack of) plans haven't worked.

The only architecture Manchester approves are industrial, boxy residential skyscrapers, Clean Air Zones across 493sq miles instead of just the city centre, Police under-reporting (he's the Crime Commissioner), air ports with 1km queues despite being the Council being the largest shareholder, housing built by non UK companies squeeing residents out as they are too expensive, protesting for months that Westminster isn't giving enough furlough - sews dissent despite every other large city locking down in a pandemic are just a few that are other peoples fault.

Dubai & Nottingham

Currently Dubai, I love Arabic culture , late night , shopping, Lebanese and Pakistani food, the smaller beaches like La Mur, sunrise beach , hidden beach and kite beach on windy days like yesterday . I like the cost of transport / taxi and the metro , love the old town & less touristy areas like Satwa for restaurants and shopping. Love the high salaries and no tax! Dislike the tourists who just moan - can’t understand why anyone would come here for a holiday, it’s a certain type of materialistic cultureless person, dislike the heat in summer and sometimes miss the arts/creativity of Europe but it’s here if you look hard enough

Bedford gets a lot of bad press, but the embankment, parks & other areas are really nice.

Ok the shops are a variety of pound, charity & vape smattered with some great independent stores. This seems to echo most high streets around the country though, which is entirely of our own making through shopping choices.

Transport links are amazing, train into London 40mins, 6 international airports all within 2 hours.

Could things be better most definitely but it’s home.

I love my City. It feels small, like a UK town.

Amazing Coastline, rolling hills, lots of wildlife (penguins, seals, sealions, albatross and the occasional whale or orca)

Not much traffic and some great cycle and walking tracks. Street art and coffee roasteries.

East Sussex

Hastings is a great town, we have the beach, the Old Town with great independent shops and coffee houses, a modern shopping centre and some lovely restaurants and cafés. There's a beautiful park, some stunning architecture, the pier, live music, art galleries and a struggling but vibrant fishing community. We're obviously the centre of an historic period in Britain's history and close to the actual battlefield at (obviously) Battle and the remains of the abbey William the Conqueror built on the site, within a short drive you have another cinque port in Rye, along the coast in the other direction is Bexhill with the De La Warr Pavilion and art gallery. Drive inland for beautiful countryside and vineyards.

The downside is that Hastings is one of the poorest towns in Britain and homelessness is on the increase.

Diagonally Parked in a Parallel Universe

I live in a small hamlet of about 40 houses. The nearest shop is 5 miles away, and the nearest pub is 1.5 miles away. The River Ouse is at the end of the garden and I can walk to the pub along the riverbank. The house I live in is at one end of the hamlet and is set back from the road. The driveway is about 350 yards long and through a wood. It is very secluded, quiet and peaceful here, until my upstairs neighbours have their squawking grand kids staying over!

My town isn’t the wealthiest and it isn’t the prettiest - but I love it (lived here since I was 3) and though I love visiting other countries I’d always come back.

You can buy your own home for less than a third of most southern towns - my kids can go out after dark and I’m not worried for their safety. We have some great local parks and nature reserves - and I can get to the beach, Liverpool and Manchester in less than 50 mins. The gorgeous Lake District is an hour away - and I’m less than 5 mins from the M6.

To top all that - all the people I love the most live within a couple of miles - and nothing beats that!

All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest

I reside in a lovely town capital of a peaceful little rock in the middle of the channel. I have shops and fabulous restaurants within 5 mins of walking distance. The marina, waterfront, and calming views of the sea are just a few minutes walk from home. A fabulous cliff path snakes along the coast where breathtaking scenery can be admired.

The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association was founded here in the 30s before moving to Leamington Spa in the 40s.

Wolverhampton

Let's see. Founded in 985 by Lady Wulfruna. The battle of Wodensfield (called the battle of Tettenhall in The Lady Kingdom) took place somewhere around here. King Charles II hid in the priest hole at Moseley Old Hall when he fled the country.

Wolverhampton these days is ok. I like that it's multicultural, it's a physically small city so you're not far from the countryside, and the canals and rivers are lovely to cycle around.

It's frequently the butt of jokes because it's got a funny, long name. Plus it has the usual problems of a city - various bits of poverty and a struggling high street.

The art gallery is good, West Park is lovely and the independent cinema is a great place that doesn't do popcorn, but does let you buy alcohol and take it into the screening.

The country's first automatic traffic lights were here. You can find a great song called Wolverhampton Girls on YouTube done by Chris Moyles. We have the head office of Mensa. We also had the head office of Carillion and that dodgy covid test centre that gave wrong results

East London

It's easy to get to central London, and the beach by train.

It's pretty quiet and my part isn't too overdeveloped.

The community spirit has gone.
