"Fab and other sites can serve as an 'absolute' for those happily looking for nothing more. Alternatively it can serve as a progenitor for meets, socials and anything else that goes beyond the 'virtual' experience." Yes. All are valid as long as it's within site rules.

"In lockdown on line communication was a godsend I wonder if some people got so used to it they decided just to stay home. I know that the longer you stay home the more difficult it becomes to go out and meet people." This is a very good point, I joined shortly before lockdown and felt like I developed this online persona that when restrictions were finally lifted I though like "Well fuck, what do I do now?" and it suddenly became real that I would have to step out of my comfort zone if I wanted to meet people.

To be fair, I felt that way when I joined in 2018. It is a bit of a leap of faith

"I’ve definitely become more antisocial. I feel safe interacting online without the need to meet actual people. I obviously have my real, human friends but I have no need to chat with anyone new in real life. It’s great " This in particular strikes a chord with my own ways of using fab and other ways of chatting to people. There had been times when chatting has lead to meeting but I’ve had a stomach turning moment where I felt comfy chatting and meeting could spoil my stay at home safe in my zone feeling.

"I think an element of this may factor in some no shows. We get multiple opportunities to talk the talk and indulge a fantasy risk free. However when it becomes real I think for some it becomes too real, especially when they factor in the real life limitations of their life (that in fantasy world they don't have to). That's why I like the real world. Real interaction, parties, clubs. In the real world we are stripped of the smoke and mirrors the Internet give us. We are there, they are there physically for one. Everyone has already committed to being in that space and thus shown a more tangible willing. Human to human everyone gets a far better feel for each other a lot quicker. I don't care much for the online world when it comes to interactions. But I accept its often the way of things and how I met My other half." Brilliant description and agree completely.
