"just need postal addy"

You might need to prove it's your postal address. Previous documentation/ bills/ why sent to you at that address

Have you had a passport before?

If I remember correctly, although it was a long time ago.

Proof of person (birth certificate etc)

Proof of address (driving license etc)

You also had to provide photographs, countersigned by someone in who knew you a certain amount of years.

like doctor, Judge , Civil servant etc.

Do you still have to go through all that nonsense to get a first passport?

Mines needs renewed soon, good job to as its a dodgy looking photocopy done at a british embassy abroad a few years back.

You need the pic countersigned if

your first adult or child passport

a replacement for a lost, stolen or damaged passport

a renewal of a passport for a child aged 11 or under

a renewal of a passport if your appearance has changed and you can’t be recognised from your existing passport

You can get one the same day, but it costs about £150. And you have to book ahead, there is no point in turning up on spec.

If you go to the Passport section of the .gov website it tells you about all about the different passport categories what documents you require, what it costs and how long it takes.

You might be called to attend an interview if you don't have all the documents required. I applied for my first ever 10yr passport about 7 years ago and didn't have copies of my parents birth certificates or their passport numbers as they had both passed away. I had to attend an interview to prove I my identity and answer lots of questions....I was born in Rotherham! lol
