I once got cornered in a pub beer garden (more like a courtyard) by a group of lads who wanted to give me a kicking. I told them I’ve got the bottle to walk into this pub like I am, you need your mates. Maybe I’m just crazy. Think about that and decide who is going to get hurt here.

They walked away.

I remind myself of that night sometimes. I can be stronger than I think I am.

On the whole, I'm treated pretty ok.

I'm the Matriarch and with that comes responsibility.

Sex wise, I can be treated like the boring crisps in the bottom of the pack, that only gets chosen when all the good flavours are gone, but I don't mind so much.

I know I'm valued by a lot of people, even if I often feel like a burden.

It's things like ex students deliberately coming to seek me out to say thank you. Yesterday, it was thank you for saving my life. The day before, it was thank you for helping me get to where I am now.

I know Mr KC adores me and values every last molecule that makes my broken body, as do our kids. My Dad, in his scrambled brain, tells me all the time how much he values my care.

I discovered NARP and it has really helped my emotional regulation. That and getting rid of all the abusive people in my life.

Tbh, I've never really had a problem with the way people treat me. Not sure if that is just being lucky or having boundaries and not taking shit. Closest I've come to being treated in a way I felt I didn't deserve has been in work (a long time ago) and my marriage. In both instances after giving enough warnings I left.

Right now I feel incredibly appreciated both in my private and professional life.
