Do any of you invest in the premium bonds ? .

Have you had any big wins ?

How many do you hold and for how long have you held them ?.

Farlington Holiday inn

Been lucky for past couple years, winning about £600-£700 in total. All £25 wins (or small multiples of). Better than the poo interest on ISA's and other savings.

I’ve had some for about 25 years. I think it’s about £500 worth and won a couple of thousand over the years. As others have said, better than being in a low interest bank account.

I bought some a while back when savings rates collapsed. I've just cashed most of them in though since I can currently get better rates on a savings account.

I personally know of someone with the maximum amount of them (£50k) I believe it is, they have kept hold of them for 3 years and they have won £1450 over the 3 years, all £25/£100 wins I guess they could have done worse but it dosent seem great to me…

I have the max and win most months - generally on several bonds at a time.

Winnings are more than the interest I’d get in the bank

Oh doing better then the guy I know of… maybe I should also take the plunge as the S&P500 is currently dipping…

I have a couple, bought for me as kid. Never won anything. Still with intrests rates so low over the last 10 years the equivalent value wouldn't have done much, especially when there is at least the chance to win big.

We have a few hundred in premium bonds. They've been there for over 35 years. We rarely win anything but the capital will always be there so no harm being done.

We both have maximum holding and over last three months have won 1-3 prizes a month. Most was 5 prizes totalling 150, but earned over £1000 in last 5 draws, so more that we would get in bank.

I have won every month bar one for the last 5 months I think it is. biggest winning was £125 one month. I have a lot in there though.

I think Martin Lewis has an article online explaining at what point it is beneficial or not to have premium bonds, i.e., over a certain amount of money yes, under that, then no.

Although there's always the chance that you could just win a big prizes with a small number of bonds.

I put any tax i will owe at the end of the year into bonds.

Have a five grand holding that gives me on average three or four £25 win's a year.

I used to have £20k but don’t have any now. The payouts are tied to interest rates, so they have been crap for years and they scrapped some of the big prizes. Max I ever won was £100 in a month.

About 4-5 years ago before they changed the rules I had the maximum allowed and would win most months, but usually only £25. It was a bad idea then and it is a shockingly bad idea now to use them . Martin did a really good article on the maths , it’s a no brainier , get your money out asap

Reading these, they seem like an option for those who already have other investments and just put spare cash in for the punt. Some people here sitting on a fair pile of cash

Martin Lewis has something on the odds.. I think he described 1k investment as giving a small return due to the amount of people who have similar sized investments... He was indicating a much larger investment is needed for regular wins

You need a big investment to make it worthwhile, sure.

But inflation is cancelling out any return you would get with savings.

"You need a big investment to make it worthwhile, sure.

So few people get this sadly.

Raisin did an article recently - if they don’t act now, UK savers could lose half their money by January 2030

I get at least £25 most months sometimes multiples of £25 the most was £75 and my biggest single win has been £50.

I have the wins reinvested in bonds.

Initial £25K investment has made more than £500 in 2 years and I have recieved an email only this morning saying I have won.

I need to check the site to see the amount.

Generally better than a savings account but now interest rates are rising it may be worth rethinking

I was bought £5 worth when I was born. Everyone forgot I had them then I found the card a few years ago. Excitedly I set everything up online, expecting something. Sadly, I’ve had diddly squat.

If you’ve got a significant amount it seems to be worth it, you will win regularly, and match or exceed inflation. If you’ve got a small amount the chance of you winning is tiny. That £5 I was given when I was born would’ve bought a lot more than it would now!

Got about £25k in them, and have won about £1000 in 3 years, I got out of the stock market around this time last year and put that cash into PBs…

I’m glad I did before Ukraine, the cost of living crisis and the supposed ‘natural party of government’ deciding to tank the economy
