He sung theme so gs but I'm not aware of any he wrote. His wife Patricia co-wrote the Minder theme.

Sweeney 2 film is in my top ten British films (Long good Friday, is at number 1). Dennis Waterman played Carter brilliantly next to John Thaw Regan.

Minder showed he could play another likeable character.

I’ll miss him. RIP

well judging by the tributes I’d say many people have forgave him he himself admitted it and said he was ashamed the problem people had was he said she wasn’t a beaten wife she was hit which I took as a one off yes one to many and I kind of got what he was getting at

Well the original post asked what's your memories of him and someone mentioned their memories of him was as a wife beater. Someone else didn't like that memory so told that person to button it. I mentioned Gary glitter as another person with an unsavoury past and asked if they felt the same way about supporting him too. Hope this clears up your confusion bud. It's all part of the thread if you read through.

The Sweeney was his old program and Minder was his new one. That's how I remember him. Bad lads' Army was the las thing I watched, with him doing the voice over.

As his questionable superiors might say...

The Sweeney was iconic. It did everything that British TV had never done before. In the early 70's it really was ground breaking stuff and Denis Waterman was a perfect fit as George Carter, as was the late great John Thaw as Regan.

Much preferred the slower version of the theme on the end credits.

I still watch the occasional rerun on ITV4.

The Minder series was supposed to be a vehicle to further his career but to be fair George Cole as Arthur and Patrick Malahide as "Cheerful Charlie" Chisholm stole the show (for me anyway) But the later series without Dennis as Terry just wasn't the same.

Dennis was also an accomplished theatre actor and played many diverse roles.

Yes there were some negatives in his life but at this time I think we should concentrate on the positives.

Plus, he only spoke about it because she did first!

He was a bully & a wife beater. I'm not glad he's dead - his body of work entertained millions - but it certainly changed my opinion of him.

RIP Dennis Waterman I grew up watching him in the Sweeney & Minder and later New Tricks.His daughter was also in Eastenders and I always thought that they may have created a part for him but it never happened.

another actor in the series who was good that was probably what made minder so successful was the cast and support cast all brilliantly acted and always had good writers was a shame they tried a reboot with Shane Ritchie and it got panned
