In my gym the dumbbells are just put on random places on the rack. There’s nothing worse than picking up some heavy dumbbells and someone comes and puts some 4kg in their space so I have to walk to the other end of the gym to put the heavy ones back on the rack.

What really annoys you in the gym?

I heard a guy say yesterday that a 10 minute session in a sauna was like having a full workout.

And while yes saunas do help with burning calories it's no where near doing an actual workout.

So for me it's the Bro Science.

People who sit on the machines browsing their phones and not actually working out

And there seems to be this trend of filming yourself, I got told off by this guy who had propped his phone up against a machine to film himself on the opposite machine, I didn't see it and kicked it over...

He rattled off at me and I told him he was lucky I didn't stamp on it, the fact he was filming did not sit well.

Phone use between sets. Meaning they are on the weight station for an age.

Weights in the wrong place.

All the mate chats between sets which again takes a machine out of action for an age.

Go to the gym, focus, train hard, finish, then socialise.

The growing trend of people filming everything. Not even a PR. Filming every set of every exercise so they can put it on insta. No one cares about 5 sets of 5 average reps. Literally no one cares and you could cut your workout down by 20 mins if you didn’t do it.

Overly loud and show hoary pre-lift rituals. Again, if your pulling a big PR attempt then set up your phone, do a little manly grunt to get yourself psyched up. But I see guys screaming, clapping their chalk everywhere and making an ass out of themselves for every set

Just general try hard, “look at me” type stuff. No one cares just lift and go home

People filming absolutely everything when they have zero physique to show anyway, I get it if you've achieved something and can use your knowledge to help or inspire others

Overly dramatic slaps, shouts and barking prior or mid set

But on the flip side... people moaning about any grunting at all. It's definitely part and parcel of taking a set to full failure.

Equipment left out

People doing giant sets when the gym is busy. Fine when it's quiet (I love giant sets especially for arms)

What inspires one person doesn't always inspire another.

I have recoded things on occasion (or got my PT to record me more accurately) as I do have an insta for fitness stuff, specifically for the kind of things I needed to see..

When I was a size 24 and 21 stone I didn't need someone with excellent physique or people that had 'achieved something' I needed to see other people like me, just trying.

I hate this. After heavy squats I go straight to the legs press and do high reps with light weights. I’m already physically exhausted from the squats and don’t want to unload a couple of hundred kilos before using a machine.

People taking weights off the rack while you're lifting, very distracting, just fucking wait.

People speaking to you mid set while you're lifting. I had a guy tap my shoulder while I was squatting very heavy a few years ago, asking how long I was going to be, I dropped the weight and nearly broke his leg, dick. Never speak to me while I'm actually lifting.

People taking weights off the bar while I'm resting, again, fuck off and wait until I've finished what im doing.

People asking to work in with me on the rack, I have no issue with this but then deciding they want to deadlift while I'm squatting. If you work in you do then same exercise as me.

I don’t mind this it’s extra lifting for me

The only thing that really bothers me in the gym is when I see a cleaner pretending to be a PT , on his phone bored totally disengaged or flirting with women while some overweight guy is paying him to do exercises.

These guys are total losers, not real PTs , just someone off the street with a L2 or. L3 in cleaning a treadmill and being a wanker.
